Had this for a couple years. Went through two wands (the plastic threads crack as others have noted) and then it blew the fuse. Replaced the fuse, but it blows again on power up. I wish it was more reliable, because it really does work well. but if it won't last, I can't recommend it.

You can't beat the price on this iron. Heats up quick, programmable presets, lots of tips to choose from. Been using mine for over a year and it works like day 1.

I bought this because my other soldering iron I bought from you guys fell apart on a job site. The pencil itself seems very cheesy considering the heater for it looks much more hi tech. I just hope it holds up and doesn't burn itself out. It was more than I usually spend on an iron to be used on site, but it looked worth it. I hope so...

This unit heats fast, recovers pretty fast and is easy to set the temps. There is 1 main problem. The iron / handle is poorly made. I don't leave the iron on if I'm not using it. It's never been over heated. The plastic handle is just low quality and poor design. I went through the first iron in a few months but it was loose and needed replacing within a week or two. If you tighten the "plastic" threads, they just strip and pop loose with any pressure from soldering.. The cord for the iron is also very short. I ordered a replacement iron and it arrived with the plastic threaded part un screwed under the rubber grip.. Assembly issues? I screwed that together and also purchased a 5 pin connector to turn my old handle (cord) into a extension. I did not recommend this iron to my friend and would not buy another one.

Had it for 1.5 years. Heats and cools fast. Leave it in the trunk of the car, so it is handy when I need it. Iron does not seem flimsy to me, since I am hauling it everywhere. Cons- short cable on the iron and iron doesn't fit the base very well.

I really like this soldering station overall. It really is an incredible value! I own 2 of them, of which I used one all day long, day after day, and the tip of the iron lasted - well it outlasted the iron. Thankfully I had the 2nd one stored away in the box and pulled the iron out of that one. My only issue has been with the iron itself. The first one broke apart , and the second one developed a sensor error issue in short time. With that first one, I noticed that they are a bit fragile and used it accordingly. With the second one, well that's just odd luck. Of course that bring around a positive - MCM will take care of you when something goes wrong.

I've waited for this to go on sale and finally it did again. It is a nice station but has some obvious negative issues. Setting temperature presets is a pain and I have yet to master it but can get close to the temperature I want to set them at. Best leave them there before I take a hammer to it! It heats quickly but the cord is about a foot shorter than the Weller EC1002 I have on my bench. The iron fits very loosely in the stand which is bad. The tips are reasonable enough and a good variety. The power switch is on the right side where I usually have the stand but with the stand on the left it is OK. Can't give it a 5 start rating because of the obvious things noted above. I restore old radios and use a vintage Wen 199 soldering gun on them. I have two and a lifetime supply of tips.

Not a bad base. The soldering iron is a bit flimsy. Look and feel of the base is ok. The programming/setting of temperatures is a bit of a black art. but, It works. Tested the tip temperature against a calibration standard = passed. AC volts on tip = passed. Tip resistance = passed. It gets up to temperature quickly. It holds temperature relatively well. It no Weller/Wahl, but, it doesn't come with a Weller/Wahl price, either.

I purchased two of these stations while on sale. One had a problem after a few minutes of use. While programming the presets a switch slipped in the unit and caused it to constantly increase the temperature to maximum. However, it was an easy fix and no other issues. Quickly heats to operating temperature and stability is excellent. Temperature readout is spot on. The station has a permanent place on my service bench and I would not hesitate to recommend this unit to anyone looking for a quality solder station.

This is a very nice unit, ESPECIALLY when on sale, however: 1. The iron holder is not my faborite design. The wand tends to flop around in it. 2. Be careful if using to desolder/wick. I broke the wand applying too much side pressure (which wasn't all that much) 3 This is the BIG PROBLEM - TRY TO FIND A REPLACEMENT WAND. GOOD LUCK. Until MCM can provide replacement parts for this unit, I can NOT recommend.

I bought this station based on the price (picked up on sale), past experience with Tenma, and other reviews. My comments are pretty similar to others. My prior station was a Weller ESD 81 which I have no complaints about other than the purchase price. It heated up very quickly and it was easy to change tips. But, my tips are wearing out and I was able to pick this station up for almost less than what replacement tips would cost me for the Weller. Like others have mentioned, this Tenma station heats up very quickly (faster than my Weller) and seems to regulate better than my Weller as well. The preset feature is very useful as well. Like others have mentioned though, the cord could benefit from being 1-2 feet longer. I had to rearrange my bench to get the iron to reach my work area. Also, my Weller had the power switch on the front (nice for my setup). This Tenma has the power switch half way back on the lower right. That's an inconvenient location in my mind. But, considering the price, one most can probably live with. When swapping tips, the tips slide over the ceramic heating element. I'm curious as to how long that ceramic element will go before I break it.... Here's a tip to Tenma, if you come out with a replacement iron that will fit this station but has a 2 foot longer cord, you'll probably sell quite a few of them....

THIS SOLDERING STATION WAS ON SALE SO I TOOK A CHANCE AND BOUGHT IT. I WASNT SURE WHAT TO EXPECT FOR $39.95 BECAUSE THIS IS THE FIRST TENMA BRANDED TOOL I HAVE EVER PURCHASED. IN HINDSIGHT I REGRET THAT I DID'NT BUY TWO. EVEN AT IT'S REGULAR PRICE OF $61.19 IT WOULD BE A GOOD DEAL BUT AT $39.95 IT WAS A STEAL. THE THIN, LIGHTWEIGHT SOLDERING IRON IS ATTACHED TO A SOFT, FLEXIBLE CORD OF ADEQUATE BENCHTOP LENGTH AND PLUGS INTO THE FACE OF THE POWER SUPPLY UNIT. WHEN TURNED ON, THE TIP HEATS UP VERY FAST AND ACCORDING TO IT'S OWN ACTUAL TEMPERATURE READOUT ON THE DISPLAY, THE THERMOSTATICALLY CONTROLLED TIP APPEARS TO MAINTAIN THE SET HEAT EVEN AFTER CLEANING THE TIP ON A COPPER SPONGE. REPLACEMENT TIPS ARE RESONABLY PRICED AS WELL. I'M VERY HAPPY WITH MY PURCHASE.

I am Very satisfied with the product. It has three presets that are totally adjustable and it heats up quick. I’m an electronics hobbyist whose use to working with an old style plug and play 30 watt iron and this new one is sooo much better, it de-solders components very quickly. The only thing that was not “up to par” so to speak was the stand that comes with it, it’s nice but seems like it could hold the iron better with a little modification.

I've never owned a solder STATION before, but I've owned quite a few different soldering irons. Let me tell you, there is a difference. The other soldering irons I own are like TOYS compared to this bad boy. Set the temperature, and literally within seconds..you are ready to go. Not like before...plug in and wait......then half way through your joint....the iron begins to cool down, or cycle, or whatever it is doing...This iron stays right on temperature...If you are contemplating the purchase of a soldering iron, just go ahead and buy this station....you'll be way ahead in the long run. No buying another one later. This one will last a lifetime, and really represents a great value for the price...If you can catch it on sale...that is GREAT, if not, it is still worth every penny of the regular price...

When I finally found out what the normal soldering temp should be (had to get advice from folks who uses soldering irons a lot) then I found it great and a pleasure to use. Had a drawer full of different wattages and none were usable on every project but this one fits all. Wish I'd had one long ago.

This is the first soldering station I have ever owned. I am using it to build the first project I have ever done that is based on a pcb. So far it is great. I was able to actually figure out how to use it. My only complaint is that I did not buy a very small chisel tip at the same time-and that is my own fault! I also want to get a better tip cleaner. The one that comes with it is fine, but I tend to use it A LOT! I am frequently getting too much solder on the tip and needing to get rid of the excess.

Bought this to replace my tenma 21-147, which I kicked off my bench and into field work. VERY fast to heat up; just under 25 seconds from power on to 685F with the included tip! Not the biggest fan of the keypad layout; when trying to adjust temperature by a few degrees often wind up hitting the preset instead. Separate buttons would do wonders, but it's a small(ish) gripe considering I don't change temperatures all that often.

FINALLY, A GREAT TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED, LCD READOUT AT A GREAT PRICE FOR THE HOME TECHNICIAN. I use this iron on a daily basis, it heats up in less than 10 seconds to your set temperature and keeps the setting with no problem even while in use. I also love the preset temp buttons making it easy to switch between different soldering tasks. My only gripe if you can call it that is that the unit only comes with one tip, otherwise do not hesitate to purchase one of these for your home shop.
