I purchased both the 20 gauge and the 18 gauge and could not tell the difference in wire diameter, weight, or performance. I measured resistance using a power supply that current limits at 1A to force a measurement current and a voltmeter. Resistance varied between 50 milli ohms and 500 milli ohms. The dominant resistance was the crimp at the alligator clip. I reworked the clips on several leads, soldering before crimping. Now both sets of leads measure from 21 milliohms to 23 milliohms. Without contact resistance, the 2' of 20 gauge should measure 20.3 milliohms. The same length of 18 gauge should be 7.5 milliohms less. The bottom line is do not pay the extra for the 18 gauge unless you are prepared to do some thorough testing when you receive the leads to see if you got what you pad extra for. Otherwise save your money, and buy the 20 gauge. Rework the crimp connections if you want better than 500 milliohms.
