  I'm not a professional but repairing electronics is one of my hobbyies. I am using this gun as needed, I love the fact that you can contro lthe temperature, it does help. The one thing about it is that the cord is kind of stiff (not a problem for me) other than that is a great value and good quality product. MCM is one of the best when it comes to good prices for parts and electronics also good customer service.

  This is a great soldering station for the hobbiest or casual user. It heats quickly and the temperature can be regulated for delicate jobs. Replacement tips are cheap and easy to find. I've used this soldering station to solder in auto alarm connections in my driveway when it was 4 degrees and windy and the iron maintained heat perfectly. I would wholeheartedly recommend this product to anyone looking for a low cost soldering station.

  Love this soldering station! I leave it on and use it for about 6 hours a day and have had it for about 5 years . I originally ordered it as a back up station while waiting for replacement parts for another one. I eventually got the parts but now use that one for a back up instead. Only have had to replace tips.

  This thing has been backordered for at least six months now. You almost RUINED a class of mine by failing to ship this item as promised. To any other instructor who uses this item for your classes, please be careful. It's a wonderful item! I wish I could buy some.

  I am an occasional user and have two of these soldering stations, one for work, one for home, for a couple of years now. They always work when needed and the adjustable temperature feature is granular enough to get the job done. All in all, you can’t beat this station for the price!

  When I attempted to use this iron, the barrel heated up, but the tip would not even get hot enough to melt the solder. I have never had problems with any other Tenma product i have used, but this one is a Zero in my book.

  I purchased this soldering station as back up, and when I went to use it, I found myself turning the thing all the way up, and while the barrel gets up to about 117 degrees fahrenheit, the tip only gets to 74 degrees. Looked it over, and tried again, the same thing. Guess I got burned (literally) on that one! Spend a some time, a bit more funds, and get a decent soldering iron.

  These are cheapie irons but, they are what my customers are asking for. I've sold one to a guy who repairs TVs in his garage and he is happy with it. If you need top quality buy the Hakko 936, which is what all of our shop units are. But if what you need is something to get the job done or one inexpensive enough to sell to the average Joe looking for something to keep in the garage then this is the station for you. It beats what Radio Shack is selling for this same retail price point.

  First impression was good, but notice it took a LONG time heat up...almost always required full heat setting...know realize why...the heating element wires are subject to easily breaking/ poor connection. The normal reaction to an iron that get slow to heat is a loose tip nut connetion. I have used irons all my life and know NOT to turn the tip screw without backing up with small pliers, etc, so that the heating element shaft does not turn....so be VERY careful if you ever need to change tips etc..especially after oxidized with heat and use... .Upon my disaasembly of the heating element and barrel, I found the wires internal to the element can be very easily broken and twisted...( there is NO extra Play) It takes VERY VERY LITTLE twist of the barrel to break the wires... ( unlike weller product which is very well designed to not let the barel budge!) It could be the wires were always loose from the factory and intermittant, and then burnt through, or that simply finger tightening the tip nut was en

  I bought this iron on sale recently and cant believe the value for the money. Not that this is the greatest "station" I have ever used, but for the money it cant be beat. Works great, reliable and solid. In reading other reviews, I have to say I am suprised that anyone would find issue with this. It works great, every time, with both lead and lead free solders. There was a previous review commenting about a retaining screw falling out. This seems impossible, since there is no retaining screw. If they were refering to the knurled nut holding the tip in place, these do tend to loosen over time due to temperature extremes, This happens on all irons. But there is no way in the world it would fall off. --Impossible.-- Trust me, buy this iron, keep the tip tinned, and you will be 100% happy.

  My 13 year old son wanted a soldering station for his birthday, so I figured I'd go cheap. I bought this for him and used it so much myself I bought two of my own, one for home, one for the shop. I am totally happy with them all. They work great, even with lead-free solder. As long as you are vigilant about keeping the tips tinned (or else they oxidize pretty quickly), they work great and provide very good reliability. Years ago I taught an electronics class at the local high school. The students had to share soldering stations due to cost. This station would have totally solved that problem. As cheap as these are, we could have even afforded to let the students take them with them at the end of the semester. I cannot recommend this station enough. A+ all the way.

  For a low cost station, I have been very satisfied. It has been in service for about one year, and gets used 2~4 times a week.

  Our company bought Two of these units. our initial impression was favorable. The temp control was a great feature. After about a month of using the stations is where the problems started. We would finish using them and store them, after retrieving them for another job we would notice the retaining screw and tip would be sitting next to the station or somewhere near it in the bins. We would find them and screw them back on this started happening more often. Now we have the two stations with out the retaining screws and lots of tips that we can not use... I find this unacceptable.. guess you get what you pay for ... Maybe MCM can get the manufacture to change the design so others that want an inexpensive station and afford to keep it around
