  We've been using one of these to remove surface-mounts capacitors in many types of equipment repairs, especially flat panel TVs and it has been working great for us. It makes the job of removing the caps without damaging the PCB so much easier than using a standard iron and having to rock the capacitor back and forth until it is lifted from the board. This is definitely a worthy tool for any modern workbench.

  Using a blowtorch to light birthday candles... This describes this tweezer-type iron. It's far too hot for even RoHS-compliant soldering temperatures. The description says "soldering/desoldering tool" yet the packaging simply says "desoldering". You cannot solder an SMD resistor with this iron without damaging the circuit board traces. It works fine if all you want to do is fling a resistor or other 2 lead component off its pads. I'll be building a light-dimmer temperature controller...I suggest you do the same. The tips are quite thick making operation difficult. You can't really tweeze the component without crashing into the board. The tips are also quick to burn up; they heavily oxidize in minutes further causing difficulty. My advice? Well, it's cheap so if you need to remove a bunch of wrongly placed resistors - it's good in a pinch. If you need to do some soldering, use an iron.
