  I've used two of these over the last several years. Together with the 21-1025 conical tip, the wattage adjustment makes it very useful for the closely spaced pins of SMD chips and very small parts, as you can set the temperature to melt the solder without burning up the pads or components. However, you cannot leave it plugged in continuously on your bench, as the barrel heat will eventually degrade and crumble the plastic handle where the barrel is attached, and the fine point tip will gradually 'evaporate', leaving a blunt tip. When this one gives up and dies, I expect to replace it with the same model if it is still available.
