Exceptionally tough and durable Plated for added corrosion protection 5" length
I purchased these as a backup for my company's electronics assembly & solder station. We have some several US produced red handle flush cutters that we've used for years. I figured these would be of equivalent quality. I'm mainly R&D and prototyping these days but I happened to sit down at the assembly station and grabbed these new black handled flush cutters to quickly trim a piece of 1/32" thickness ABS on a project box. First use - SNAP. One jaw completely fractured. I gave the metal a quick look under the magnifier at the point of the break and it told me all I needed to know. I don't believe these tools are tempered in any way after heat treatment. Brittle far beyond the point of being usable. Stay away.
Have read many reviews on several websites about this batch of shearcutters and I'd have to agree that the blades don't line up. I really wanted these to work so five minutes on the bench grinder and they're much better. Seems that they skipped the last step when they were manufactured.
I've been using Klein tools for years. They have a fine reputation. However, I expected these cutters would have their cutting edges meet perfectly and they do not. At the end of the cut, the blades overlap. I cannot say they do not cut, as they seem to do that job well, but, they leave a "stepped" ridge on the end surface of the cut wire.
These cutters are much stronger and better than the cheap kind which are only good for a few cuts before they develop grooves. This cutter could be improved with the spring clip to prevent cut wires from flying out in a dangerous manner, and if one works near other people, I would recommend the more expensive version so that wires are not propelled into your neighbor's eyes. I threw away my Radio Shack cutters.
Seems solid and reliable. Very versatile for testing small electronic items. Glad I got it!
First pair I received had 1 blade with the tip snapped off right out of the package; they were replaced at no cost. Second pair blades do not even mate and have play at the pivot... You close them normally and hold them up to a light source and see a "V" of light through the blades. Absolute junk. The Plato 22-8705 cutters are much better, as are the cheaper Chinese 22-13910; both their blades mate correctly for a sharp cut on even very small wire. Don't bother wasting your time/money on these.
The cutters are made well. Strong and have padded handle. Fit my hand and are easy to use.
