    Emergeny Light or Nite Light!?

    Overall: 4 out of 5

I had purchased this item because in one part of my business, there isn't any emergency lighting and I don't want to trip over something if the power goes out. Then I could remove it from the wall outlet and use the flashlight to get around. So I bought this (actually two) for that purpose. I have had experience with another brand that almost looks identical. The difference is the other brand's flashlight comes on when the power goes out (or removed from the socket) and this one, the night light is on when the power goes out (or removed from the socket), assuming it is in darkness. The other brand's flashlight function comes on regardless of the light level (i.e., Emergency Light). Of course this is in "Auto mode." Both of them are off in "off mode" and flashlight on in "on mode." The night light is bright but I don't know if it's bright enough in a very dark room in order to maneuver around objects. The name implies (to me anyway) that the flashlight would come on in a power failure (Emergency Light) and that's what I was looking for, your needs may be different.

Very bright night light, unfortunate configuration

I'm impressed with how bright the night light is. My wife and I recently had child #3 and this light is bright enough that we can check on him in his bassinet at night without turning on a table lamp. The night light actually seems to put off more light than the flashlight. The second one of these I plan to use in our camper as night time potty runs are pretty common as are power fluctuations. My only complaint with this light is the electrical plug is located somewhat mid-body so when plugged in to a standard electrical outlet, it prevents use of the second socket. There is no way this light requires enough current to justify covering the second socket.
