      Excellent value

      Overall: 5 out of 5

Although I also wish there was a 5V setting, it's hard to beat the price to value of this unit.

As a response to mcmjames above: I tried a Hosa dual banana plug meant for plugging in speakers, and the spacing was just right.

      Provides common battery voltages

      Overall: 4.5 out of 5

The only knock I have against this supply is the lack of a 5v supply. I understand however that it does provide the 6 most common battery voltages associated with 1.5v powered devices.

      Exhibit Fabricator

      Overall: 5 out of 5

Excellent versatility for the money. I use these frequently for power supplies in projects. The choice of voltages allows me to power nearly a whole exhibit with power to spare and reliability far exceeds the normal "Wall Wart" that I may have used instead.

      Low Cost Power Supply

      Overall: 3 out of 5

The problems: 1. The jacks are a non-standard spacing, too close together for use of a dual banana plug. 2. The switch uses the p.c. board for the stationary switch contacts. This works fine for switching the transformer taps, but contact resistance in the feedback resistor path can result in the 3 volt output being 10% high. Contact cleaner/lubricant on the p.c. board contacts helps. The pluses: The multiple taps on the transformer keep the power dissipation low.

How to add a 5V 2A output capability:

      Overall: 4.5 out of 5

Add a LM7805ACT or MC7805ACTG regulator IC internally. (with the proper 0.33uf input leg cap and 0.1 uF output lleg bypass caps along with at least a 470 uF filter electrolytic on the output leg) IT HAS TO BE an ACT or ACTG component, they're the only ones that will handle 2.2A given a large enough heat sink. Since the IC drops about 2V internally you'll need to give it at least a 7.5V input. NOW, drill a small hole for a mini SPDT rocker switch, center leg to the red binding post, one outside leg to the wire that was originally going there and the other to the output of the 5V regulator IC. You now have the capability of using it as it was with the rotary switch or switching it to a solid 5V 2A output.

      Great product

Great for running cooling fans in AV applications where noise is a factor.

I have used several of these units and all are working great. I even have had one working 24/7 for several years now.

Solid, reliable power for small projects

      Overall: 4.5 out of 5

This unit is not one of the fancy switching supplys that are so light and tiny, it actually has a real live transformer in it ! I've used it on a half-dozen projects and it has performed perfectly. The only thing I wish it had was a 5V position.

I have used several of these over the years. One is on my bench, as a temporary battery eliminator, several others are are permanently in use on various items. All have been 100% reliable.
