When hands free lighting is essential, this head lamp, with 4 modes of operation, gives you just the amount of light you need.
bright and light, works well
excellent price, great features, pretty bright., lot's of uses for this led light. hiking at night, working in the dark, reading in bed at night. the list goes on.
Very handy. Have had incandescent versions of this, that ate batteries like candy. I look forward to long use from this.
excellent price, great features, pretty bright. just wish it would tilt. other than that, lot's of uses for this led light. hiking at night, working in the dark, reading in bed at night. the list goes on.
After I purchased one in November 2011 I thought the light produced by 4 LEDs was pleasant for most purposes with a working distance of 2 to 6 feet. By August I thought the light was too dim. Having purchased 2 more I started using another. I just compared the output of the first one with a unused one both with 4 LEDs lit. The used one has 31% of the light output of the unused one. Both draw about 100 ma. I figure I have used the first one less than 500 hours. The MCM description says it should have a life of 100,000 hours. I still gave it a good value rating because the price was only $2.30 and the worn out LEDs could be removed. This is not the first LED flashlight with a short life. Several years ago I purchased 3 Chinese flashlights using a single AAA cell. Initially the light output was considerably more than I expected. I used 2 and left one unused. After about 3 years I stopped using them because the output was less than 10% of the initial output.
I had a similar one lately. too bad, the plastic and head band detoriated rather fast, due to high body temperature and sweat. This one is to early to determine, but lighting is good and price is right.
You can't beat these for the price. I bought two on sale for $2.99 for my kids. After they got them, I kept borrowing them for tasks around the house I need both hands and a beam of light for replacing wall switches. I ended up getting two more so I could have one and put the other in my tackle box.
These are great for the money. 3 intensity setting plus a strobe setting.
The three intensity levels are nice, depending on your need. The light adjusts easily up and down. I only wish that the headband was a little larger. I have it all the way out and it is still a little tight.
Value based on $3.99 price. 4 LEDs light with the first push of the switch, 4 more with the second, 4 more with the third, then a strobe of all, then off. The strobe is a nuisance, and the number of LEDs lit (4-8-12) is not good for conserving battery life. 1-4-12 would be more reasoable but I found a good use for the existing arrangement. 4 LEDs is bright enough for most purposes but the beam angel of 19.4 degrees is often insufficient. I bent the LED leads (which are soft) to point the left 2 LEDs left, the right 2 LEDs right, the top 2 LEDs up, and the bottom 2 down while checking the beam pattern. So the second switch press doubles with of the beam and the third doubles the height. (First remove the aluminumized plastic that serves no optical purpose. Use needle nosed pliers to neatly bend the leads keeping the plastic base of the LEDs where they are. One problem is poor solder joints between the LEDs and their circuit board. 2 LEDs were flickering before I touched them and one came loose on both leads as I was bending it. The problem is dirty pads. After scraping the copper pads clean they soldered easily. I use high discharge rate NimH cells to fully light all LEDs when needed and prevent high operating costs.
Works great when you need both hands to work in dark environments
The design is ok, but don't expect this lamp to stand up to hard use. It's nice and bright and the on/off switch is easy to operate. The case is fairly flimsy and certainly isn't water tight. The ratchet that sets the angle of the light will fail quickly if you flex it too often, so it's better to just leave the light pointing straight forward. All that said, it's hard to argue with the price.
I received 2 of these and they both had the same problem. When I inserted three Rayovac batterries they failed to work. Some investigation showed that there is a slight ridge inside the holder that would catch the edge of the battery and prevent it from making contact on the positive end. I used an exacto knife to trim the ridge and the light then worked fine.
Hands free light is handy and adequate for most projects. Has settings for low medium and high as well as strobe function. Draws 110ma / 200ma / 270 ma. from 3 AAA's which means 10 hrs. worst case on alkaline cells. Top over-the-head strap is a bit short and may not accommodate larger head sizes. Not quite sure why you need a strobe on your head, unless maybe you're hoping to be a target; but even low illumination will most likely get the job done if you're avoiding working in the dark.
