Five Way Speaker Selector w/Headphone Jack
Tabletop control box allows selection of up to five speaker pairs. Internal 100Ω resistors ensure that amplifier always sees a load, even with all switches off. Progressive switched resistor network ensures that a minimum of 8ohm load is seen by the amplifier (when 8Ω speakers are used), regardless of speakers selected.

This device allows me to drive my headphones with my Jolida 302 vacuum tube integrated amplifier rather than following the dubious current trend of using a dedicated headphone amp. The device works as intended and is a heavier and more nicely made piece than I expected; the only think I dislike are the 1970ish spring loaded wire terminals which are now kind'a uncool and don't easily accept big wires. But that's OK, I just trimmed and tinned the wires, you know, like in the old days.

All in all I'm very pleased.

    • "Headphone Hissing Issue" by erzug1 on 2/24/2014
      Overall: 2 out of 5
      Value:
      Quality:

Has anyone experienced a hissing sound (most prevalent during quiet/low volume moments) emanating from the headphone jack? I have tried with multiple headphones with the same results. When I only insert the plug halfway into the jack, the sound is clear (left channel only). However, when inserted completely, there is hiss in both channels.
The sound from this device into the speakers is crystal clear - no issues.

    • "Did not work out of the box" by FrankSillag on 6/23/2011

I would have considered this a good product if it had been in working condition out of the box. I hooked it up and found the Right channel completely dead. External tests with an ohm meter confirmed no connection in the "+"Right path and erratic readings in the "+"Left path. I wanted to get on with the job, so I took a chance and opened it. I found two 5 ohm 20 watt resistors (R3 & R4) with the down-stream leads wiggling in and out of the PC board. There was solder on the board, but the leads had not been heated enough to allow ANY solder wetting. A proper soldering job put it in working order.

The one I got seems to have the same wiring flaw as noted by a reviewer on 8/12/2007 below. I'm not going to bother taking it apart, all I did was reverse the left and right speaker wires coming into the unit and that works for me.

    • "TC-25 seems to have wiring flaw!" by dszigeti on 8/12/2007
      Overall: 3 out of 5
      Value:
      Quality:

Overall the box works (sort of). Under test, I found that the TC-25 (V1.2) "cross-wires" the left-to-right and right-to-left channel. This was proven using a Multimeter and then a circuit board inspection. Although the right-left problem can be fixed by swapping the speakers wires, some amplifiers may have a problem with grounding. I can see that for most people, it probably would not be a problem. The problem can be corrected internally is you can solder. I will post this message to the blog, so contact me through there and I will send corrections.
