Lots of tweet for a Lincoln.

    Overall: 4.5 out of 5

No matter what you read just be careful with the plastic cover and don't overtighten. If you use a power driver use it to only cinch the screw but not finish tighten. Do that by hand.

As described you need not only a hole but two ears on each side of the hole for the connector tabs. Easy to do with a drill and/or rat tail rasp.

Puts out plenty of sound in my 8" 2 way speaker. Crossed over at around 5K and work well with MCM 8" Clear Polypropylene Woofer 55-1240. Neither the woofer nor tweeter overpower each other in my 1.2 cubic ft cabinets. I like the HiVi better of course but they are 3 times as much and probably a blind test would be hard to tell apart.

    Worth Every Penny And More

    Overall: 5 out of 5

As I write this I'm listening to finished DIY speakers using these tweets and the MCM 55-1856 mid/bass. Crossover is about 2.2Khz. These tweeters sound way better than a $5 tweeter has a right to. If you're a speaker builder forget the few negative comments below. The fact that the top face plate can easily be removed is a bonus in my book. BTW, if you remove the four screws under the top face plate the bottom plate can be removed too. This is in fact how I'm using them because they're "back-mounted".
If you can take measurements, and have experience with a good x-over design software like SoundEasy or PCD you should have little problem creating nice sounding *super-budget* speakers with these.
    I'm buying more....lots more.

    Saved me some big bucks!

    Overall: 5 out of 5

I am a diehard Polk Audio user, I have been using mine various speakers since '84, '86 and '89. I've driven them hard from time to time and blown a few tweeters, several while on the five year warranty period but also a few during the twenty plus years since. I have found that the 53-8010 has the same SPL and ohms that are required in these old Polks! Don't tell Polk Audio but I just exchanged the face plates of the tweeter and Bingo! I just saved $50 per tweeter! The output is indistinguishable from the OEM!

    Great little tweeter

    Overall: 5 out of 5

I got this to match the 5 inch aluminum cone woofer with cast aluminum frame that mcm also sells, the two put together make an amazing match. The highs are clear and crisp and the sound quality really blows away anyone who listens to these great speakers. Yes, the face plate does come off, and there are some parts that are a little more delicate, however as long as you use some common sense when assembling and put the face plate back on at the right angle, you'll never have any problems with this tweeter. Great value for the money.

    Awesome Dome tweeters

    Overall: 5 out of 5

These Dome tweeters sound phenomenal. They are crisp and clear as it gets. I am using them in my ohm I series speakers that are 4 ways with 2 tweeters one facing forward and one facing up along with the midbass and midrange. Most of my drivers are from mcm. As far as the removable faceplates a lil black permatex #20-2983 applied before mounting will take care of that. Awesome dome tweeters.

Nice tweeter for replacement or new projects - just use care when installing

    Overall: 4.5 out of 5

These are a fantastic deal on a 1" dome tweeter. I've read the comments on breaking the bezel, and that is what prompted me to write this review. These do a really good job, they sound good and can extend low enough to be used in a 2 way system that - if you limit your power, can be crossed over fairly low. At this price you can improve power handling by making an array. You do need to realize that the bezel (face) is not attached to the tweeter by an adhesive. This works well as you can take them apart for fitting, and then use common sense when tightening these down. I've used many of these for rebuilds, and never broke one yet. Consider using thin sheet foam for a gasket - that will give you that needed seal without having to give them a tight "crunch".

    Solid performer

These are a great value. Being suitable at an exceptionally low crossover point, these are ideal for a 2-way speaker system where the woofer has a limited upper range. The faceplate is removable but it's better to use it since it helps widen the dispersion from the dome. Some carefully applied contact cement will help keep it in place while working. Another reviewer mentioned the faceplate broke when putting in the screws, but didn't say whether the screws were round/panhead or the countersink type flathead screws. Don't use drywall or countersinking wood screws on this or it will likely cause damage. Using panhead screws that are screwed in until they are just tight enough should yield good results. They were packaged reasonably well. And the main thing is they sound pretty darned good.

    Really Poor Quality

    Overall: 1 out of 5

Bought 2 of these and the front plate wasn't even attached, It appears they are just pushed onto the tweeter. Even if you wanted to glue them back on, they don't fit correctly. Plus the packaging is so minimal, that both came with the domes crushed. The axiom. You Get what you Pay For really applies here.

    Works Well

    Overall: 4 out of 5

Used these to replace some tweeters that sounded like they were going bad in a set 8" boxes. The highs seem a little clearer than the old tweeters and they look better than a 2" cone. I wish I would have been aware that the connection tabs are on the far edges of the tweeter frame though. Due to the tab locations I had to notch the openings in the boxes to get them to fit right.

    Both broke instantly

    Overall: 1 out of 5

I hate to give bad reviews on anything but I have to on these. I bought a pair and as I screwed them in the plastic housing broke on both! Then each terminal post broke as I twisted on some wire just to test them before soldering. I just threw them in the trash. I never really even got to hear them properly. Don't waste your money on these.

Excellent replacement performance in a home audio system

    Overall: 5 out of 5

I replaced a pair of original tweeters (physically identical) in a customer's 10" 3-way floor standing speakers with a 10" passive radiator. The customer was more than impressed that these offered better highs than the original set of tweeters. If I ever needed another set for another customer, I'd go right back to these!

    Good for the money!

    Overall: 4 out of 5

I knocked a couple of stars off the quality rating because 2 of the four I purchased had broken faces. It appears that a light impact to the side of the packaging will fracture the somewhat-brittle plastic. The speakers are usable without the face, if rear mounted to a rounded over opening.I shouldn't have to go to all the extra work to do that, but it's not worth the postage to return them vs. their cost, which admittedly is a bargain. I'm using mine with 2 #55-2970 6.5" woofers in a MTM arrangement. Fun with cheap speakers!! Build something with these!

    Buy Them!

    Overall: 5 out of 5

Best value for this money of any tweeter I've ever used! I used these as a low cost way to upgrade the tweeters in my 02 intrepid's car stereo. With just a simple 6khz first order cap, these tweeters were crisp and balanced, and suitable for all kinds of music at medium-loud volume levels. I imagine with a 2nd order crossover they would handle even more power, and would be fine for any two or three way configuration. I imagine these are comparable to tweeters that five times as much. Buy them, right now! The only downside: they smell funny. No idea why, but after you've been handling them, they leave a strange smell on your fingers. No idea why.
