      Excellent Midrange

      Overall: 5 out of 5

I used these woofers to upgrade my old pair of Optimus Pro X7's. They were a perfect fit. I used the modification I found here.. and they sound fantastic. I couldn't be happier with this purchase. The mids on these drivers are very clear. They make the woofers they replaced sound like mud. Thanks MCM.

Not An Exact Replacement in the Minimus-7

      Overall: 5 out of 5

This woofer has a rounded ridge around the basket that is too large for the hole. That being said, the fit is close enough & the mounting holes do line up perfectly. You can use some washers under the flange to avoid distorting the mounting flange, or don't worry about it. The grill fits on just fine. The woofers sound great.

      55-1856 - 4'' Aluminum Cone Woofer

      Overall: 5 out of 5

Had to cut down one of the wire connector lugs on the speaker for use in the Realistic Minimus 7 speaker. These elements replaced the original woofers, one of which the cone had separated from the surround. The new speakers fit perfectly, and have a larger magnet than the original. They sound great. I've been "breaking them in", playing for a week now and they keep sounding better. If you like your little Minimus 7 set and need to replace the woofers, these are highly recommended. They look pretty good with the aluminum cone showing through the speaker fronts.

      Perfect fit and great sound.

      Overall: 4.5 out of 5

I have a couple of Optimus (RS speakers) and I liked the sound in my Home Office. However they are ancient and after being put back into use one of the woofers blew. I admit I was hesitant to purchase these on line because they may not fit and the only experience I'd had with aluminium cones was when I tried out a bass stack with aluminum cones and it didn't sound too good!
Was I in for a nice surprise.......perfect fit and a great sound.........oh, did I mention the great price too.

      Fit the bill

      Overall: 5 out of 5

I need some replacement woofers for a small set of satellite speakers. Since there's not a lot of options out there, I gave these a shot and was pleasantly surprised. MCM comes through again.

      Nice sounding driver.

      Overall: 3 out of 5

I used two of these parallel with a Dayton 4 ohm dome tweeter crossing at 3 Khz, in a transmission line tuned to 50 Hz. They produce amazing bass with low distortion. The mids are detailed and power handling is not a problem. Their performance far exceeds there low cost.

a great driver--but could use some better packaging as the lips on the frame tend to bend

      Overall: 5 out of 5

These are great drivers and wonderful for the money. Almost world class IMHO.

They should be used with a tweeter and need to be crossed over low pass (pick your frequency from 2kHz to 6kHz) so they do not deliver spurious output in the tweeter range polluting the tweeters output. But other than that hey have a really nice clean, crisp punchy output. Very easy to work with.

My only negative comment is the thin lips on the pincushion frame bend easily and the boxes these come in are flimsy with no support (unlike many others of the same type from MCM) inside the box. I have used many cases of these, and often one, two or even three of the drivers in the case come with unusably bent frames. MCM has been good about replacing these. But I hope they will work with the manufacturer on better housing inside the small boxes, since we are only talking about an addition 1 to 2 cents in cardboard to better secure it.

      Minimus 7 replacement

      Overall: 5 out of 5

I'm probably rating this prematurely, maybe after more testing I should update. I just ran some quick test comparing this to the old Radio Shack Minimus 7 original driver. This has a much flatter impedance curve, almost identical curve at resonance (80 Hz) which means Qts will be similar. (I can check the exact details on that later) Distortion is where this driver really shines over the original Minimus 7. The difference is pretty dramatic especially in higher harmonics. The original driver has significant distortion at least to the 5th and higher. With this driver harmonics above the 3rd are really low. Also the 2nd and 3rd are lower on this driver than the original. You don't need measurement equipment to know this one is considerably better than the original, it's immediately obvious just listening to the test tones. Time is always a problem for me. I will try to resist the urge to just get these into the Minimus boxes and not document anything. I need to make myself do a youtube video of the distortion measurements, LspCAD crossover development and any testing on the tweeter or replacement of the tweeter. Not promising this will happen but if it does I'll update this review with a link. This driver has just a bit more resonance peak issues at cone break up than the original which is expected of an aluminum cone. This will have to be dealt with in the new crossover design. I think this driver along with proper crossover redesign can make for a very noticeable improvement on any old Minimus 7's you may have laying around.

      Amazing Little Speaker

      Overall: 5 out of 5

I used one of thes to replace a driver in an old die cast 2-way mini speaker and the results were amazing. If you close your eyes you'd think this was a speaker with an 8" woofer. The magnet is quite large and I had to modify the cabinet to fit, but the results were well worth it. Make sure you have room for the large ceramic magnet which is about 4" in diameter. I like this driver so much, that I am tempted to buy a few more to hold on to even though I don't have an immediate need. A great bargain. Well made, nice compliant rubber surround.

      very good 4" woofer

      Overall: 4 out of 5

An excellent replacement speaker. Good construction, larger magnent, and better cone material than OEM speaker that I replaced with this unit.

      Speaker Hobbiest

      Overall: 4.5 out of 5

The lows on this woofer is stunning for its size and power ratio, I have search and tested many 4" woofers at various prices. SB Acoustics, CSS, EJ Jordan, Wavecor, Peerless, TangBang, Morel, HiVi, and Dayton just to name some. I ported it in a .13 Ltr cabinet with a 1.25"D X 5.5"L flared tube paired with a 2.5" mid and a 1." tweeter, this baby is music to my ears on a budget!! It has to Xover pretty low, because the upper mids start getting muddy, this woofer probably should be listed as a subwoofer/low midwoofer.
