  I built a pair of bookshelf speakers years ago and saved the plans. I used a 1/2 cubic foot cabinet that measured: I.D.= 6.5"w. X 8.5"d. X 15 3/4"h. The port was 1 1/2"dia. X 4" long for an F3 of 44 Hz. I crossed it over at 2,500 Hz with a 12 dB per octave filter to a VIFA 1" silk dome tweeter. I have built many speakers over the years and have an extensive technical knowledge of speaker design and concept, so you can trust my calculations. In my notes I wrote, "The bass and lower midrange is superb, but sounds shrill above 2,500 Hz". As you can see, this was many years ago, but I personally remember this woofer to be a real darkhorse that was a value far beyond it's price tag. In this price range you'd be hard-pressed to find a better 6 1/2" aluminum cone woofer!
