  Good bass definition. Some woofers are rather bright in the midrange frequencies making them well suited to 3-way systems. This is not one of those woofers. The mids aren't overly bright or honky. Just right for classical, blues or jazz. It would do okay for country or rock if you add a midrange driver to punch up guitars and keys. Pair it with a nice silk dome or ribbon tweeter and you'll have a 2-way system that is easy on the ears. Almost a velvety, smooth quality. I ordered these intending to use them as a mid in a 3-way professional audio system but decided to use them for a 2-way with a planar tweeter instead. The woofers I was using with the planars are a lot bright and therefore much better suited to the pro audio application. Seems you need a number of different speakers for different uses and these are great for general, casual listening when you don't want the listening fatigue to set in from being exposed to hours of music in a day. The mellow quality of the sound produced above 1khz makes this a good choice.

  Needed cheap and dirty replacement drivers for 8 plastic cabinet speakers located throughout a large recreational facility that had been vandalized. Each are a two way speaker with a port, and simple cap/coil crossover. While I have no way to measure the response or any of the other specs, these speakers all sound fantastic, far better than expected. And some are driven very hard. My customer was just looking to get buy for now, but he is totally happy and I am a hero. For the money, I don't know how I could do any better.

  First off, the dust covers were not glued on all of the way. Fixing that I see the magnet was fractured / cracked throught on 1 of the drivers. Installing them in a sealed and also a ported enclosure the drivers were a far cry from the (94dB w/m ) through a T-calss amplifier and also a 1000 watt Carvin power amp, the driver never put out enough volume to even have to yeel over . A loud talking voice and you could be heard over this speaker at the point the speaker is starting to pop & distort. I don't know how anybody can review this as a quality speaker.

  This Speaker is an excellent value for the money ---- in fact I have carefully compared it to other 8" Speakers costing up to 4X the price of this one. I am a musician and electronics guy. Capacitors in Crossovers were changed out to try to get other similar 8" Woofers to sound as good or better and I could not. I am just a customer of MCM -- not an employee. I have also had a similar experience with MCM's Professional 8" Woofer, Model # 55-2960. Paper Cone, 2" Voice Coil, SPL numbers at 94dB/Watt/meter are great specs for a Speaker costing many times this price. Two thumbs up!

  I have been building ext. cabs for the last year. I use this speaker in a solid pine, dove tailed cab. I sell them at a local music store. I tested many different speakers using the guitar teachers and the customers. This is the one that beat the "NAME" brands. Buy the sound not the name!

  With two decades as an engineer with " the most repected name in sound" - rhymes with "toes". This woofer is an unbelievable deal. Whopping output, whopping value. Great for the novice and professional alike. Built like a tank, drives like a Ferrari.
