    Great Buy.

    Overall: 5 out of 5

Bought these to replace blown out dry rotted woofers in a 3 way Sony cabinets and i must admit for the price these rock. I gave them a long and thourough test with all types of music, cranked right up loud ( i was hitting them with around 85 watts ) and they didnt waffle once. Excellent bass response, very clear and transparent.

    I would buy these again.

I've bought MANY of these loudspeakers.... the soft parts are TERRIBLE, and inconsistent, especially the chinese pulp composition...terrible tonality as they are.junk, junk, junk soft parts....
BUT- The hardware in these lends themselves to be VERY versatile to re-fabricate into what ever you want....nice coil gap width, nice flux density, and coil excursion capabilities, lends these to be personally re-fabricated into either high output PSA midrange drivers, wide range, woofers, guitar speakers, bass guitar, even subwoofers when re-coned with proper components...

AND- I can do this for others if interested.....

Tested specs are not even close to published specs.

    Overall: 2 out of 5

I bought two of these hoping the published specs were accurate. They aren't. The specs indicate this would be a good substitute for a Klipsch Heresy woofer but the specs are way off as tested on a Woofer tester II: PUBLISHED SPECS; SENSITIVITY 96BDB, QT .39, QE .428, QM 4.5 VAS 94.5;, VAS 94 LIT; MEASURED SPECS ON TWO UNITS: SENSITIVITY 88 DB, QT 1.24 AND 1.19, QE 1.19 AND 1.64, QMX 4.26 AND 5.34, VAS 56LIT

These specs aren't even close. I returned this and got a full refund from MCM. This is the second time this has happened - before I had similar problems with the 55-2982 and left review there. MCM should tests make sample tests of these woofer or change the specs.

I had 2 monitor speakers fail that had been used for over 10 years. I was told by a friend that had used MCM products that I would be pleased with the performance of the speakers. He was right ! The speakers out perform the original,. that was from a very well known supplier. I would recommend these speakers to anyone that wants a Quality sound without spending much more than needed to get Professional Quality. Thanks again MCM !!

    Can't go wrong.

I purchased these to replace the blown woofers in an old Fender Bassman 100 cabinet from the 70's. You know those ones with the pyramid speaker array? Anyways, they sounded great actually make this crazy design sound good!!

    Speaker Attenuates Highs

    Overall: 3 out of 5

I blew out the speaker in my guitar amp, so I ordered this one as a replacement. Fortunately, I have two of these amps, one with the original speaker, and the other with the replacement speaker (55-2952.) So, I can compare the sound of the original 12" speaker with this one. The 55-2952 is not as sensitive (have to crank up volume to get equivalent sound level), and it sheers off the high end. However, this attenuation of the high end can be useful, if you're trying to get a muted jazz tone out of a guitar and amp. It also can be useful if you have guitars with shrill sounding pickups (think Strataocaster, telecaster, etc.), and you want to mellow the sound a bit. I have not had a chance to crank this amp up, so I can't give info on how it handles loud volumes. My suspicion is that, with it's lack of sensitivity (and the large magnet on the back, with bumping and venting), it should be able to handle a lot of power. So if you need a speaker that can throw sound across a field, this might be a good choice. I'll report more on this power handling as I gain more experience with this speaker. Just be aware of the fact that your high end will be noticibly attenuated (as compared to some other speakers), and that you'll probably have to feed it a fair amount of power. By the way if you're comping behind a singer, and you like staying in the background (playing muted chords), this might be a good choice.

    Sweet Paper Cone replacement woofers!

    Overall: 5 out of 5

Just loaded these into a cab where the original speakers had taken a hit from too much volume.
My customer wanted a replacement driver, that was as close to the original as possible and purists know paper cone drivers deliver smoother tone.
So, for half the money of the original 12" woofers, these worked perfectly!

    Excellent woofer, great value

    Overall: 5 out of 5

I have been looking for a while to replace the woofers in my Fisher console, the originals were designed to deliver bass response in a 1 cubic foot sealed enclosure. After trying numerous woofers at far higher prices, this worked best. Unreal value and clean response. I have been designing systems for years and this one worked best. Had to redo the crossover values cause of the higher response than the original woofer but after that- they work well. People cannot believe that sound is coming from a 48 year old unit! This is a Fisher, built in the 60's in Long Island City, cost then was $895. These woofers saved my console. Thanks MCM These are very efficient so the 40 watt RMS per channel drove them with ease.

I repair and custom build guitar amp, cabinets, and all audio equipment.
My customers love the sound and the savings.
Trust you ears and don't pay for a name unless nothing else but that name delivers.
Don't judge them the first time you hear them, they sound better and better the more you break them in.

    Very Impressed !

    Overall: 5 out of 5

I bought 4 of these speakers to replace the Celestions in my Orange PPC 4X12 compact guitar cabinet so I could play bass through it without damaging the guitar speakers. I didn't really expect much but I was really surprised at how well these cheap speakers sound with a bass guitar in a sealed guitar cabinet. Although they only go to 2500hz, they have plenty of high end "zing" for a bass guitar. The mounting holes lined up perfectly on the baffle board to make installation a piece of cake, it only took about an hour to install all 4 of them. I play bass in the bars and nightclubs every weekend so time will tell how well these hold up. So far they seem like a really good value.

Needed budget replacements for a 3-way car system, and these were the most inexpensive with the best specs. They sound great also! A simple line level adapter to a Quite Elderly (20+ yr old) Pyramid PB400G driving them passively crossed over in a 3-way boxed pair, and they really do the job on a budget. A great buy at full price, but an even better one to catch them when MCM discounts shipping! Get extras and stock up then!

    Overall: 5 out of 5

I'd like to write a good review but I didn't have these speakers long enough to check them out. I ordered 4 of them for inventory and sold them all in less than 5 hours of receipt. So I guess that I'd say I like them just fine.

    amazing value

    Overall: 4.5 out of 5

These speakers are amazing for even double the money. I used one to replace a blown speaker in a older Peavey 112PS pa cabinet. There is slightly more deeper bass with the original but 9 out of 10 people probably wouldn't hear the difference. They even weight less, so im going to be replacing the driver in the 2nd cabinet. I've also used them in some larger B-52 cabinets... as well as the mcm's die cast versions which i'd say out perform the original equipment in either case... the only problem with the mcm die cast drivers are they are a bit over sized diameter and would not fit in the 112PS cut out which original comes with a stamped frame driver anyway....

    55-2952 12' woofer

    Overall: 5 out of 5

Excellent value for such a good woofer, has good bass. Could not find a better speaker for the price. This speaker has a treated cloth accordion surround, so you don't have too worry about the surround dry rotting like the foam ones do after time.

I've used three sizes in this series -- 12" - Part# 55-2952, 15" - Part# 55-2953 and 18" - Part #55-2954 and have had great results with all. Build quality is great, sound is at least as good as the original, and price is ridiculously low. For rebuilding, repairing old equipment for resale, these cannot be beat. I even resell these as replacements in my shop, my customers love them.

A while back, I used these as the woofers in 1x12 floor monitors, and in relatively small, sealed boxes, they were gems! Surprising bass extension, smooth, musical midrange, and were very sensitive, as my modest 210 watt amplifier powered them to painful SPLs. Like much of MCM's new series' of woofers, these are excellent value for money, you really would struggle to find a deal like this from anywhere else. These would be ideal for replacements in mid-level PA gear, bass cabinets, or custom PA projects like mine! Buy 'em, try 'em!

    Good value

    Overall: 4 out of 5

I bought 4 of these for a PA project. These are probably the best value in a 12" music instrument speaker around. One thing to note is that these only go to 2500 and have a pretty flat midrange sound---as opposed to the more honky mids you may get out of eminence or other more expensive brands. Perhaps they were designed for a 3 way system or maybe bass guitar, or low / low mid speaker. Thats the reason I rated them in the middle as far as features / quality. That being noted I am still using them in a 2 way box with an eminence ads1001 HF driver and waveguide with good results. I installed an L pad on the eminence to cut it back around 6 to10db to match the woofer and crossed over at 2500. Best low cost system I have built and it can take alot of power. I heard these were made by Cadence but can't be sure.

    A Great Surprise!

    Overall: 5 out of 5

I bought two of these speakers as replacements in a relatively small 2x12 bass guitar cab. The cabinet was original sealed, so I did all the necessary calculations for a ported enclosure and now have a ported cab that matches the characteristics of these speakers. Once installed and tested, I was absolutely amazed at their performance! These things kick butt. They aren't as efficient as I would have liked, but they can take the power and deliver fantastic bass. I'm a 5-string bass player and these speakers handle it all. Then considering that I paid about $45 for the two of them, I just can't get over the great deal I got and without compromise. Highly recommended. Wow.
