      bass guitar excellence

      Overall: 5 out of 5

I bought 8 of these and built a 8x8 bass guitar cabinet. The cabinet measures 24" W x 36"H x 17 1/2"D. I used a 3500Hz 12db crossover high pass crossover for my Foster horn. I ran a baffle between each speaker that did not extend to the back. I ran my porting through the center of the cabinet. I am powering the cabinet with a Genz Benz NEO-PAK 3.5 with a 350 watt RMS output. This cabinet sounds better than my old SWR Henry the 8th. The lows are very solid with really punchy mids. Everything a bass player needs. If I play hard I get a nice growl. Overall I am extremely happy. If anyone wants the details on the cabinet email and I will send my plans to you. I went to school for speaker and audio design. My first job was at Peavey and was fired cause I told them most of their bass and PA cabinets were designed improperly. I guess I pissed off all the southern boys.

What the title says. If budget is tight these will make you proud. Value for the price is way up there.

      Great woofer, Great price

      Overall: 5 out of 5

I bought the 55-2960's to use as mibass's but further inspection of the woofers thick paper cone along with great low frequency response changed my mind to use them in a 2- way system. I broke them in with my frequency generator program on my smart-phone. I then tested one of them in a ported 1.4 cu.ft. box and wuz totally surprised at its low extension and subwoofer quality. The box is on the big side but only for testing, i will build boxes around .75-1 cu.ft. and pair the woofers with some nice tweeters from MCM. Awesome woofers!

      Surprisingly Good

      Overall: 5 out of 5

Purchased four of these as replacement for stock poly cone drivers in an Ampeg SVT-48HE Rear Ported Bass Guitar Cab. One of the Original Poly drivers blew under the load from a 5 string bass. Due to the low cost of the MCM drivers I opted to replace all of them with the 55-2960's. This also increased the cab wattage from 200W to 320W but maintained the 8 Ohm load of the cab. The higher wattage capability provided much more usable volume which in live performance is very beneficial. Well, the cab is now louder, clearer, and able to handle the higher wattage and Db level far greater than with the original drivers. Ran them in a 3 hour rehearsal with a loud drummer & guitarist, and kept up the volume and clarity for the duration of the rehearsal without a problem. As a matter of fact, the cab sounded so good, I was even noodling with it on the breaks because I was so pleased with the sound. I have also used the lower cost MCM drivers in both Laney & Peavey bass cabs with great success. All Paper cone models, some stamped frame, some cast. 15" in the Laney and a single 10" as a replacement in a multi-driver Peavey Cab. All with great success, and no quality issues whatsoever. I recommend these to anyone that needs an affordable quality speaker for pro audio speaker cab or combo amp repair. Next up is a Peavey KB-300 Keyboard combo that needs a replacement for the 20 year old 15" Spider driver.

      Afforable Pro Performance

      Overall: 5 out of 5

This woofer can handle anything you'll ever throw at it. It has a powerful extended low frequency response and upper mid-bass articulation you'd expect from more expensive speakers. I'll be looking into other MCM speakers to upgrade my existing systems. They're totally worth it!

Used several of these, as well as the 10" and 12" version as replacements in older, used gear, normally for resale. They usually end up in guitar amps, bass amps and the occasional keyboard amp. Great results every time. They sound great in a variety of enclosure sizes and types, handle plenty of power and look fantastic. I highly recommend.

      out of spec

      Overall: 1.5 out of 5

I bought 8 0f these and none came close to the advertised specifications qts was between .865 and1.1 not .569 as advertised which makes the box almost 3 times the size and it has a large 7 db rise at 100 hz also the spl is 85-87 db not 92 an added 10-15 gram weight will help but spl goes down also I'm using 4 per side so i can counter the side effects I use MLSSA to measure all the drivers i buy these were too cheap to pass up but failed to measure up

8" Pro woofer built like a tank.

      Overall: 5 out of 5

These are heavy duty professional woofers...... ( they have the JBL look to them ) Nice grey cone with black suspension and dust cover.. Heavy cast frame. Large2" voice coil, I havent runthem yet but I can tell they are a quality product! I am going to build some reference bookshelf monitors with these woofers and if they work out well will add another model to my growing custom built products. I have been trying for a long time to get the time to put some models in production and start building my speaker business and I think these would be a great way to start. MCM Makes some really good audio products.
