Used in a small PA project

    Overall: 4.5 out of 5
    Value:
    Quality:

I used this driver in a small PA project along with the inexpensive 1" $10 MCM/Pyle compression driver mounted on the $12 Pyle 612 horn. Crossover was 2nd order 1.0mh and 6.8uf low pass and 4.7uf .50mh high pass. The horn LPAD is 4R in series then 8R in parallel. The 4R is bypassed with a 1.5uf film cap for CD compensation. No zobel was applied to the 12" driver. The result is a flat response through the mid band with a small peak around 3khz I am very happy with the result. The 12" driver when crossed yields 93db efficiency (less than stated). I could imagine a very nice inexpensive PA tower using 4 of these drivers in series/parallel 8ohm and upgrading the horn driver to a Selenium DT220i or PRV 290 using a similar crossover scheme. On the positive side, this driver has a very tame breakup pattern so that a zobel is not needed if a 2nd order or higher is applied. Response if very smooth. The only faults with this driver is that the cone is not as stiff as better drivers leaving transients from bass, kick, snare a little less snappy. The efficiency is lower than advertised and cabinet volume needs to be large for porting. I swapped one of these drivers for an $80 Celestion TF1225 (my favorite affordable 12" driver) for a direct comparison and it confirmed my findings. Well done at $23!!!!

    Boom for the buck

These subs perform great as I replaced some old Kenwood speakers that were worn out and I am utterly impressed at the quality of the sound as well as the power rating. No chance of blowing these babies. I would recommend them to anyone needing a good replacement and the price can not be beat.. A solid speaker that performs very well under the most extreme conditions.

    awesome woofer

Dont be fooled by the price or even the frequency responce, this woofer has great subwoofer quality playing down to 20 hz. Remember the 48 hz is only the f3 measurement, it still performs below that. I am using this woofer in the vintage ohm "I" series that utilizes a 4-way system with the 55-2962 as the subwoofer. The ohm replacement is over 200$. This woofers performance is awesome.

    Amazingly pleased!!

I have been in the Consumer Audio electronics field for around 20 yrs. now and I would have accepted some minor flaws, inattention to details such as: fit and finish, inferior manufacturing or materials, sloppy craftsmanship, ect. And! , truely expected to see some lack in detail based on the Description vs. extremely low-price . WELL!! right out of the box I was very pleased by the obvious quality of this speaker and expected to hear why they could be so inexpensive - because they looked too good for the money!! Well during some lengthy and critical break in session prior to using them as my band's Main P.A, speakers, I listened to some reference tracks and wasn't altogether impressed until I Mic'd my vocals. Perfectly reproducing the tonal quality of my voice so well, my bassist thought I was singing un-amplified as he entered the building. The best choice I could have made for my vintage SLM 2-way cabs which I purchased for almost nothing from an acquaintance who knew nothing about Pro-Audio. I do and @ $40.00 per cab, total refurb. is unheard of...Well not anymore!!! and I have finally found my source for inexpensive , quality speaker components, now..what's next is total custom builds - " Number One" Audio is my brand-name , "Cuz if it's not #1 , it's #2!! - right-on MCM for making my dream more do-able than ever before!!

I purchased these to replace a pair of blown woofers in a set of circa 1970 Teac speaker cabinets. Wow - these are quite amazing! They produce bass that you can not only hear, but feel. Very pleased! I would definitely buy these again.

Used several of these, as well as the 8" and 10" version as replacements in older, used gear, normally for resale. They usually end up in guitar amps, bass amps and the occasional keyboard amp. Great results every time. They sound great in a variety of enclosure sizes and types, handle plenty of power and look fantastic. I highly recommend.

This woofer is a great value for the price. Construction is solid and mounting holes lined up well. It produces great low-end compared to other speakers costing double the amount.
