    Let 'em breathe!

    Overall: 3.5 out of 5

The parameters are wrong, but Vas definitely isn't 6 liters. I built test cabinets and these drivers need more volume. I had one in another cabinet while I was waiting for a replacement, and with .6 ^ft3 @ 68Hz they sound much better and don't fart out. One was DOA with a broken tinsel lead - yet another QA oops for MCM. They do stand up to my 100w receiver and have tight bass in the right cabinet.

    Good enough

Didn't have the bass response I was hoping for, but overall decent for the price.

    6 & 1/2 Woofer

    Overall: 5 out of 5

I replaced the 6 1/2 speaker in my old Creative Labs PC speaker system with this one. The old one was pretty torn up from age and occasional miss use. I have a sub-woofer that sounds "brand new" now for a very reasonable price and amount of effort. Thanks MCM!.

    The Thiele-Small parameters are wrong

    Overall: 3.5 out of 5

The actual Thiele-Small parameters are Fs=75.Hz, Vas= 6 liters, Qt= 1.12. See my review for the 55-2971 8" woofer. Building a ported system should give you happy results. The Qt is too high for a sealed box This driver or the 8" would be good in the rear shelf of a car. For that, you might want the 4 ohm version.

    Great sound. Great buy.

    Overall: 4.5 out of 5

I purchased these to swap out the broken woofers in a pair of no name speakers that I bought cheap overseas 25+ years ago. After an hour of breaking in, these speakers reproduce good quality music. They sent my Infinity reference 2000.1 straight into storage. Now this pair of speakers is comparable to my Tannoy MKII but with less bass (with only 6.5" woofers) and a little less volume. I'm driving them with a modified Tripath TK2050 amplifier and an IPOD as the source. I have been listening to them for a week and am very satisfied with the sound they produce. Next project is to use a pair of these to fix an old Sansui SP-30 for a friend. Can't wait to see the result. You can definitely notice the quality control is inline with typical cheaper china made products. I ordered four speakers and one of them has a hole on the rubber surround and lots of glue around it. Looks like they were trying to patch the hole in the factory. A call to MCM had the problem resolved at once without any cost on my side and I received the replacement today. For about $6 a piece, this is probably the best bang for the buck. Future consideration is to use the 4 ohms version in series to make a tower speaker.

    Great Surprise

    Overall: 4.5 out of 5

I had some 40 year old 14" bookshelf speakers with nice oak cabinets I found at a Good Will for $6 for the pair. They had one two-way speaker in each, I installed these and some small tweeters purchased from MCM and man did they come alive! I think I have $12 in each and they really carry the base far better than I would have believed for the size. At a little over $5 bucks how can you go wrong!

    Great Speakers

    Overall: 5 out of 5

These are really good speakers! Very solid frame work and heavy magnets. I installed 4 of these about a year ago in my car audio system powered by MB Quart amps and they pound out great mid bass. still going strong and you cant beat the sound for the price. Quality units.

    Excellent driver for the money

    Overall: 4 out of 5

I found a pair of Acoustic Research TSW-110s at Goodwill that were in really bad shape. I was going to recone but the cones and coils were too far gone to attempt it. Without having T/S specs or having even heard the originals, I was kind of shooting in the dark for a replacement. I originally purchased these for a different project but decided to throw them in the 110's boxes to hear their bass response. I was blown away. Not only is the bass tight, punchy and accurate but the mids are quite nice too. They seem like they may be a little soft in the midrange but still very nice considering their price. This might change as they break in as well. The build quality is not great but they are not bad either. They were a little trigger happy with the glue gun when attaching the dustcap. Keep that in mind if you are going for a pretty, exposed woofer type of speaker.

    Great speaker for the money

    Overall: 4.5 out of 5

Bought this woofer to replace a super cheap driver in an active sub woofer box that BB sold for almost nothing (you get what you pay for...). The sound is so far improved it is unbelievable! It fits perfectly and delivers far lower and softer bass. A pleasure to listen to. Used to enhance the "Tin Can" sound of a flat TV, does the job right and exceeds expectations. I could have acquired better and pricier driver but for this specific use, this speaker delivers... and at an amazingly low price!

    Excellent replacement woofer

    Overall: 5 out of 5

Replaced a single blown 4 ohm 16cm woofer in a Technics Electronic Organ with two of these in parallel. The sound is perfect now. The family says the organ sounds better than when it was newly purchased. Great value.

    Top 25 Contributor

I found some Axiom AX 1..5 speakers cheap, that other than having dried out foam surrounds, are in excellent shape. I purchased these to use until I can get a proper repair kit for them. I must say that I am pleasantly surprised how well these sound. Lots of bass for a speaker this small, and they have decent midrange as well. I would say the original woofers are slightly louder (higher SPL), but these are close, I backed off the treble on the amp a tiny bit, and all is well. I like the vented magnet to help keep the voice coil cool. If you are looking for something inexpensive to get an old pair of bookshelf speakers going, these will work great. The high rating is based on price/performance. MCM was quick with the shipping as well.

    pretty good

    Overall: 5 out of 5

to start, let me tell you these have some of the stiffest cones i have ever seen on speakers this size also, they have a huge xmax i have never seen at their size they are pretty loud, but on the highway with the windows down they were a bit quiet for my liking...but they sounded so good i had to find a way to use them...they are the best headphones i have ever had:D

    Great Replacement Speaker

    Overall: 5 out of 5

My old 6.5 inch woofers in my Optimus speakers fell apart. Now I love these speakers. Everybody that had heard these speakers loved them. Well, after 13 years of use, the foam edge on the edge of the woofers, (only one of them oddly enough), fell apart. I didn't know how to go with this. I insisted on keeping the cabinets, but what woofer replacement should I get ?? Well, let me tell you, these replacements were the perfect fit. Very close to the original specs, but a bit better. They did the job, my speakers sound as good as they ever did. I have a small studio and these have always been my studio reference speakers... and for good reasons. I'm glad to have them back sounding as good as new. I would highly recommend these to anybody.

Amazing value for money, good car speakers!

    Overall: 5 out of 5

Used these as mid-woofers in the front doors of an 01 Dodge Intrepid, miles above the nasty, nasally coaxial Volfenhag speakers I'd popped in there previously. In the immensely restricted airspace of the door, these easily reach down to 50hz, and the generous xmax helps them cope very well with bass. Of course, no replacement for a subwoofer, but these will give you all but the lowest bass. The midrange is always the concern with poly woofers, but it's excellent with these. I will admit they're a little 500-1000hz heavy, but a simple loudness eq will tame that. Overall, very pleasant, punchy woofers with good low end bite. Buy 'em, build some stuff! I plan on doing home theater 3-way MTM towers with these as the midbasses, the cheap soft dome MCM tweeters, and the 12" mcm woofers in the bottom, I'll be posting reviews of all of those then.
