    Top 25 Contributor

i purchased these woofers before, they are somewhat like the jbl design, but not jbl.... they seem to be well made, heavy and can handle a lots of wattage power.... die cast and a large magnet... these woofers are great to build your own speakers with.... take note, you should have a strong amplifier to push these, a amplifier that is equal or rated more than the speaker itself to obtain the full thump... these woofers have a treated paper cone, large voice coil and treated surround material.. for durability, i would rate them a 7-------- from one to 10, and for quality of sound i would rate them a 8------- overall for the price, and not over spending for a brand names these do the job just fine........

    OK for cheap....

    Overall: 4 out of 5

.....I recently bought a couple of these just to see what they could do, and how they were constructed from a components point of view...My opinions may seem a little brass as compared to others, but I'm probably a little too finicky...
For THE MONEY ( I got them on sale) I have no real complaints. MCM provides the best bang for the buck that I have been able to find.BUT- there are simple things which could be done to seriously improve the performance and tonality of these woofers..... Not too good in a folded bass horn with a compression chamber, but OK performance in certain ported and sealed enclosure volumes IF you properly tune the box... The problem here- MCM posts specs (T/S parameters) that are WAAAAY off base...ALWAYS measure T/S yourself for best results!!!
Build quality is decent for import. They do have sturdy cast frames, decent iron in the pole plates, and the cones are pretty darned stiff to avoid flexing/break up/ enveloping problems.. BUT-I'd seriously recommend coating the cone edges and/or surrounds with some "ReZon-Ex".... It'll help dampen cone edge resonances and perimeter waves, and YES- you will notice a difference, even if only using for lows/sub freq.'s....
The surround is a decent quality treated textile, but overly stiff.... I'd like to see a looser suspension system incorporated into this design, namely the spider assembly, which is overly treated to stiffen it up.... if it had a loose spider, i'm certain the stiffer than normal surround would be adequate for over all compliance dictation. The dust cap COULD be either stiffer, or simply a smaller diameter to reduce flexing.. I replaced mine already with small caps which barely cover the coils...These do have decent efficiency, even at the lower couple of octaves, which is a plus....
Over all, these are pretty good for al that I paid for them, and I'd buy more... GREAT for when you're simply loading enclosures to sell, or you're building groups of enclosures and driver cost is a factor...
    Thanks Guys-
    Sincerely,-

    Happy customer.

A customer brought me 4 Peavey FH-1 single 15" vintage W bins and he had 2 of these loaded in them. He told me they sounded awful. we hooked them up and yes they did. I then loaded them up in a pair of 2x2x2 ported sub boxes and WOW! these things came alive. So we scrapped the old Peavey boxes. I ended up building 4 new vented cabinets and the results are excellent. These look and act like some JBL woofers (2226) I have owned and used over the past years. These are as good as any 15" woofer 2-3 times the price. Huge bass and good mids. For the price you get a lot of speaker.

    "GREAT WOOFER FOR THE PRICE"

    Overall: 4.5 out of 5

I purchased these to replace a pair of BW 1801's in 2 cabinets that were getting worn out, the 1801's have more mid range to them than the these MCM drivers, (but we don't buy 18" woofers to play mids do we!) & I love the build quality & sound, BASS is great, SPL is better that the BW's. I want to make sure to note however that the screw mounting holes do not match up with my BW cabinets, the MCM pre-drilled screw mounting holes are spaced at the same distance apart but further out on the edge of the woofer, so keep in mind either the cabinet or woofer will need modification to mount. I didnt want to modify so I went with the MCM Part #: 55-2964! Other than that no regrets, these woofers are great!

THIS IS SOME WOOFER from MCM......I think thier best yet

I just received these in a few days ago. I believe I know who the OEMer is of these woofers. These woofers I think are problably the BEST woofers to ever bare the MCM name. The construction of these drivers is some of the best Ive seen in pro audio. The cone is heavy duty the basket is cast nice the magnet is HUGE and the through basket venting rivels that of that "J" company. I bought two of these for evaluation for use into my product line and right out of the box I see a winner here. I will be building some new model 18" subwoofers for these but I can already see these being the driver of choice for my PS18PRO Subwoofer. I also see these available in smaller sizes and I think Ill be buying more in the future!
