    Budget Boom

    Overall: 5 out of 5

Great looking sub first of all. Looks like old Oz Audio subwoofers from the 90's. Great rubber surround with poly cone and cap. Not the most powerful sub of course at 80w program, but at this price, you can load up on a bunch of them.

After break-in, Fs came back around 33-34Hz, Qts was around .83 so it does it's best in a ported box. Vas was still just 1.7cf or around 48 liters. We have some great 1.5cf boxes ported at 35Hz that they should sound great in. I bought them to fill a bunch of bandpass boxes we have. Would love to a line array for home too since they play up to 4k. Can't wait to get them into cars though. Some little 100w amps should be perfect for them. We plan to sell a pair, wired to 4 ohms of course. Then bridged to small 2ch 200w amp for around $120 out the door, Box - Amp and subs with wire kit!. Thank you MCM! You give us the edge we need.

    Terrific Value

    Overall: 4.5 out of 5

I chose this woofer over another excellent product, the MCM 55-1215, due to it's ability to handle the midrange better in a 10" two way system crossed over at 1500 Hz. This woofer would work well in classic sealed 10" two-way designs like the Realistic Optimus-23 for example, where the Q is higher by design. I use this woofer in Dynaco A25-type designs, employing an aperiodic vent, which allows you to tailor the Q to your taste, and removes the "boxiness" in the midrange. The cons: the rubber surround is sloppily applied and covers the mounting screw holes. This needs to be trimmed (carefully) to avoid damaging the surround! Also, the mids can get squawky when the volume is turned way up. Bottom line: this is my go-to woofer in the economy price range. It sounds far better than it's price would indicate.
