These rugged carpeted 10" speaker systems are ideal for DJ and stage situations where durability, high power capacity and solid sound performance are required on a tight budget.
I'm driving these with a Carver 1.5 Magnetic Field Amplifier, rated at 450 w/ch, and these sound phenomenal for the money! I recommend putting them on speaker stands, though. Putting them on the floor will result in the highs and mids getting absorbed by people on the dance floor, while the bass will still come through loud and clear. No sub-woofer shouldn't be required with these, unless you really WANT one.
I was going to buy a $200 packaged PA system elsewhere, but saw separate components at MCM, which looked like a better system for about the same money, so I went for it. I purchased two of these speakers. Frankly, they are not the highest quality, but are still well worth what I paid for them. One of them arrived damaged, having apparently fallen off the back of a truck, dislodging the 10" driver and breaking the particle board where the mounting screws had been inserted. Other than that, the speaker survived the accident. I removed the remaining loose pieces of particleboard and squirted a bunch of Elmer's glue into the broken area to solidify the shattered wood. Then I replaced the driver, rotating it 90 degrees to screw the mounting hardware into fresh undamaged wood. That worked pretty well. For a while I thought I still had a bad harmonic vibration in the cabinet from the accident, but I later determined the vibration was not in the speaker, but in the mounting stand I had the speaker sitting on. So both speakers are now solid. OK, What about sound. All I can say is "Very Good". I play guitar and sing through the speakers at the same time, at moderate volumes (doing solo work in small venues). They've got plenty of low end and as much sizzle as I care to dial in on the high end. These speakers are two-ways, with a crossover, so they have a wide frequency response. That's about all I can really say about them. They probably aren't intended for large venues or high powered rock bands, but I can't find anything to complain about. They're just pretty darned good speakers, and a great deal for the money.
Very nice quality exactly what I was expecting very pleased.
I purchased a set of these speakers to play around with my DJ gear and entertain family and friends. I use an XLS 1000 Crown Amplifier to push them. When they arrive one of the front grills was bent in but nothing I couldn't easily fix. They are light weight and small enough to transport anywhere. I like the sound, plenty of bass and although the tweeters are really bright, nothing the equalizer can't fix. Great buy for the money!
I recommend this article, the only problem is that I would buy more but I do not want to send Purto Rico
One of my speakers arrived damaged, which was easy to see if you check out the type of wood they use on the cabinet. Kinda like Wheatabix cereal biscuits....easily broken. One of the woofers was knocked loose pulling the screws from that crappy wood. After a little modification (oops warrenty voided) all is well. I added better insulation and re-glued the cabinet in places....removing the rattles. Once modified, they impress in action. I will use them to scare the little children on Halloween. YEAHH
As cheap as they were to buy, I didn't expect them to look so good when I pulled them out of the box. But the honeymoon was over when I hooked them up to my amp and started playing music. The bass was boomy and loose, hitting basically one note. And those piezo tweeters were harsh enough to make a person's ears bleed!
With a little work, they can be made quite decent though. I plugged the ports, which tightened the bass and allowed the subs to hit lower notes and get rid of that mid-bass boom. They're not as loud, but they sound a hundred times better. I then mounted a rectangular piece of high density foam over the centers of each piezo horn, and that took off the harsh edge and brought their levels down to match the subdued subs.
Now they're keepers. They play most music quite well, and easily go loud on my Crown XLS202 without breaking up. Stand alone, they cover everything from Micheal Buble to Maroon Five to Fatboy Slim. But if you're planning on playing music that's heavy on the low bass, you'll need a sub.
I purchased a pair of these speakers a week or two ago they are to bad for the price, but just for the record the wood that is used is Wafer board (osb) not MFD.
I purchased a pair of these for small events and for my emergency PA system. These speakers sound great with a nice deep bass (for a 10") and clear vocals & highs. They also look professional with the full grill instead of the cheesy waffle grills you see on inferior speakers. The speakers accept 1/4" or banana plugs. Out of curiosity, I opened the speakers up and was surprised to see that they had a crossover and acoustic dampening material. For the price, You cannot go wrong with these speakers and I highly recommend them.
