  • "Loud and clear and work great when paired with MCM 15 in. subs" by mattposter on 5/3/2014

    Quality:

I bought 2 of these and a pair of the MCM 15 inch subs. Together they work great. I have these running 150Hz and up. Which is what the crossover in one of my amps is set at. The signal goes to a Pyle Pro PTA3000 which runs my subs and that sounds the 150Hz and up signal to a Pyle Pro PT3300 that runs these. Not the ideal amp but it runs these great. I can crank them louder than you would ever need to at a normal Dj gig. Loud and clear. If you know how to run an EQ you can dial these and the subs in amazingly well. I have heard better quality but the normal person will never notice a quality issue. Only the picky audio geeks would complain. I've heard many worse bar and wedding Dj equipment. For what I use them for they will hold up very well. The boxes don't get the pounding like the subs so I would say you could couple these with a better quality sub and you would have many years of use out of these and a good quality sub for professional use. If for casual use, don't be afraid to go with the MCM 15 inch subs. Only thing I will change is the pole mount. These are plastic, metal would be much better. And I gotta be honest, I question how the crossover inside the speaker will hold up. But no problems yet. You can pick up a 2 way crossover for a decent price so even if that goes I'd still say these are worth the money!!

HEY WHAT'S UP NAPPYHEAD AGAIN, JUST PICKED UP 4 OF THESE 15" 2 WAY SPEAKERS, ALONG WITH 2 MORE OF THE 2 WAY 10" MODELS OF THE SAME LINE. THESE SPEAKERS SOUND GOOD, NOT 2 HEAVY, NICE JUST LIKE THE 10S. FOR THE FULL TRI AMP SETUP WITH 3 CROWN AMPS, PER CHANNEL ON THE 2 CROWN X2000, I HAVE 4 SPEAKERS, ONE KUSTOM 15" 2 WAY 0N THE BOTTOM WITH ONE OF THE MCM 15S ON TOP OF THAT WITH A MCM AND PYLE 10" 2 WAY ON TOP OF THAT, FOR A TOTAL OF 4 SPEAKERS PER STACK PER CHANNEL. ON TOP OF THE 10 I HAVE A PYLE 6 WAY TWEETER, ONE PER SIDE. THEN I PUT THE 18" OF THE SAME MCM LINE THAT I PICKED UP FOR THAT EXTRA LOW END IN THE MIDDLE OF BOTH STACKS PER SIDE ON A CROWN XLS1000. FOR A TOTAL OF 10 SPEAKERS PER SIDE, L/R. THIS IS MY FULL FOH SETUP. MAKES FOR A NICE SETUP WITH GOOD POWER AND GOOD SOUND. ALSO PICKED UP 2 OF THE 49.00 18S WILL BE REVIEWING THESE LATER. UNTIL NEXT TIME, LOVE-TRUTH-PEACE-FREEDOM AND JUSTICE, LOVE YA OUT.

    Overall: 5 out of 5

MCM is playing the same wattage game almost everyone plays, quoting the 600W as a peak power rather than an RMS power. In truth, the power handling capacity of a speaker is based on "pink noise" which is a frequency weighted noise source. Almost all music is dominated by low frequencies. The 300 Watt RMS rating for this speaker is *not* across the entire frequency band of 20 Hz to 20KHz, but is weighted towards the low frequency range. You can drive 300 W into this speaker at 100 Hz; you *cannot* drive the same 300W at 15KHz. This is how *all* speakers work.

With the listed Crown amplifier, the speaker is UNDERpowered because the amp is only good for 200W/channel. Given that you admit to a "high drive" event, you were probably clipping because you had the volume too loud for the amp. When a solid state amplifier clips, all of the energy goes into the midrange or tweeter, which is typically not designed to handle that level of power. The bottom line is, jmburek, you probably simply burned out the tweeter with an underpowered amp... Solution: always use an amplifier that has more power than the speaker can handle. Either that or be sure to make sure your amplifiers have output power meters and never overdrive them.

Disclosure: I do not own these speakers, but I am commenting in general.

I bought a pair of these on a bet with a dj friend who didn't think they would be any good.Boy were we surprised when I hooked them up,and they out performed a much more(4X)expensive pair he has.I find the sound quality, and power handling to be exceptional for a speaker in this price range! I liked them so much,I just ordered another pair. And,yes I would reccomend them to a friend! My only complaint is that the cabinets could be 3/4' mdf, rather than 1/2". Woofer and tweeter both function flawlessly!

We just received 4 of these and are very impressed with the overall sound quality. Fit and finish are also good. Only two minor things; The 1/4" input connectors tend to work loose, and the plastic pole mounts wobble on the speaker stands. We made two quick modifications - Upgraded the pole mounts to 50-1835 (steel mounts), and added NL2MP Speakon input connectors (for about $8 per cabinet). These speakers are now a perfect '10' for the price!

I got one of these on sale, and figured it would be a nice little toy, and now I am kicking myself for not buying more of these. This is the best value that i know of for a speaker like this (it is lacking a bit in the durability department but for the price you can upgrade the grill and pole mount and still come out ahead, and if damaged they can be replaced) it has very clear sound and good bass and the highs are crystal clear, buy it and you'll be amazed too.

Awesome value and killer sound from these speakers. My only complaint is I am to buy a bigger amp(not really a problem) and I think my neighbors are getting annoyed too. I don't believe you can beat this deal. Shipping was crazy fast too.

My partner and I split the cost on a pair of these to use for our modest DJ gigs. Initially they worked and sounded great, but after 5 hours of relatively loud playing, the midrange/tweeter horn stopped delivering, in both speakers. Not sure if the compression driver is dead or the crossover - Haven't taken them apart to find out yet. Only a 90 day warranty on these?? Cost too much to ship back anyways. • "Good value" by osullitg on 7/8/2010
    Overall: 4 out of 5

Note that you cannot find the sensitivity of these speakers anywhere - except on the back of the cabinet. They are 92 dB, which is low for professional level equipment. This means that for a given power input, you are only getting half as much actual volume as with other brand name speakers, which are 98 dB or more. The internal wiring is very thin and there is no internal damping, potentially leading to standing waves. They are, however, well constructed from particle board, and have 3 internal braces. The bass is adequate and as expected, but the midrange is excellent, with voices and midrange instruments having excellent clarity. The tweeter is weak in the very high range and needs lots of eq. All that said, they are an excellent value, and my 300w rms per channel TOA amp went into clipping without these even breaking a sweat - they do go very loud. Even with delivery, you'll get a pair for the same price as one of a low quality name brand. They're also a good platform to modify - easy to disassemble, change wiring, add damping etc.

  • "15" PA/DJ Speaker great value for the money" by rmanderson on 5/4/2010
    Overall: 4.5 out of 5

    Quality:

I own 4 of the older brother of these speakers and I am happy with all of them. Especially the sound quality. I constantly have people come up and ask me how I get acoustic instruments and vocals to sound so good. My only problem with these speakers is the input jacks. The 1/4" jack is not very strong, and the binding posts are the only other input. I would rather two 1/4" jacks. It is even worse that if you use a dual banana connector on the binding posts, you block off the access to the 1/4" jack, but for the price I can put another 1/4" in and still be money ahead. I drive 3 of these daisy chained with an 1800 watt amp rated for 2 ohm loads on each stereo channel and they will make a lot of noise. I have been using them on outside gigs and they can make a lot of sound that people really think is natural.
