15'' PA / DJ Subwoofer
Ideal for use in a larger scale venue, this 15" subwoofer provides high SPL level and low frequency levels.
If you are looking for a real pro PA speaker this is not it, they are very inexpensive and would probably do well for home theater type applications, although they will require lots of power to get any volume (they are not efficient).I replaced the drivers/crossovers with pro-units I had on hand and it made a big difference but it's still a very small cabinet so it will never have a big bottom end. I don't regret buying these because I needed the cabs quick and didn't have time to build my own (plus the materials cost is almost as high when you count all the hardware.Bottom Line: it's a cheap solution but will never produce pro-level sound.
I purchased two of these with the 15 inch two main speakers and I am very pleased. Before I used them I took them apart and put in bigger speaker wire like the other reviews said to do and removed the passive crossover since my amp has one in it. If you know how to adjust an eq you can get these pumping pretty good. I'm running them on a Pyle Pro PTA3000 amp. Not sure what the actual power of any of this stuff is but that amp drives these speakers very well without working it to the max. I'd say they're a pretty good match. I plan on adding the cabinet corners and metal pole mounts since these are plastic. I do dj'ing as more of a hobby and these will be great for me. Or for someone's more permanent setup in a house or garage. I would say if you rely on your stuff every weekend then go with something a bit more high end, only because of the build quality. They are a light duty box. But the sound quality is very good for what you pay. They look great too. Their overall size is smaller than I expected which was a good thing for me. I tested them in a garage and then moved them outside and even outside you got a very nice full sound when coupled with the MCM 15 inch 2 ways. If you are considering the 18 inch subs I might stick with these. Some reviews said the boxes rattle... You can see the back panel on these flexing so I would assume the larger 18 inch sub is harder on the 1/2 inch particle board. These haven't rattled on me yet but I haven't abused them much yet. Well that's my honest, lengthy review. Hope this helps someone in the future.
I bought 2 of these and you can't beat them for the price. I orginally had these hooked to a power amp using the amp's internal crossover and they weren't bad. Then I got a couple of the 555-6263, 200 watt sub modules, and mounted them into the cabinet removing the low pass filter inside the cabinet and WOW!!!! They are brutal. The only problem I have had with them is that I have broken the plastic feet on the bottom moving them around so much, but the hardware store sells replacement feet. Other than that a great buy.
YOU WILL NOT FIND A BETTER VALUE FOR A PASSIVE SUB THAN THIS.
WELL BUILT WITH GOOD LOW END.
MIGHT WANT TO LOOK AT THE 18" IF YOU HAVE ROOM.
speaker not bad for the price...however, when i tried to mount our 12 inch toa 2 way speaker with mcm's adjustable pole mount, the pole did not fit tight in the subs insert and the satelite speaker leaned to one side. the speaker and sub could fall over if extended too high.... the plastic insert in the sub cracked when the pole tilted along with the top of the sub flexing because of the thin wood used in building these speakers...i'm going to replace the inserts with metal ones and try to beef up the top of the sub. for now we are back to using speaker stands with the subs at the stands side...you get what you pay for...
first purchase of this item and from MCM, delivery was quick recieved it in 4 or 5 days. I hooked this up to a 200watt rms amp and it definitely gave me the bottom end i was looking for. I plan to get one more within the next week, would definitely reecommend these 15" DJ subwoofer to anyone they also come with a built in LF crossover network
Really enjoy the Subwoofer to the point that i would like to buy another one.
Purchased 2 15' MCM Electronics brand DJ/PA Subwoofer Speakers online for my DJ systems. I wanted to add more low-end to my sound. The 15's fill that need. Since the 15's are passive units, I ran my JBL Eon's aux sends (XLR) to my second mixer track inputs 1/2 (XLR) . Next, ran the monitor l&r outs to a Yamaha amplifier to input ch A & B, and TRS cables from amp speaker outputs to subwoofers. The subs have 1/4 TRS and Speakon cable setup. I used TRS. Units hook-up fine.
The 15' subwoofers added nice lows to the mix. I was able to EQ lows from subs to compliment the Active 15's JBL PA speakers using my second mixer (PV8). The EQ and Midiverb effects rack helped to add atmosphere and wetness to the mix. The subs came with 4 plastic floor legs with screws. Just find your logical place to screw them on the subwoofer. Finally, my only gripe is the $35 shipping and handling fee. I guess the awesome price helps me swallow the shipping cost. The first order's shipping fee was $27 but cost me more in final cost on 15' Subwoofer. I will use the product when doing Medium size venues. The application is for DJ Subwoofer sound enforcement. Should be perfect for weddings, special events or parties.
For under 100 don't expect arena sound!
It's only a 15 inch and it's not super high power handling HOWEVER for the price it cannot be beat. I hooked it up to about 200-300 watts and played moderate volume rap, rock & dance and I was very impressed. In my opinion I would not be hooking this sub up to anything more than 400 watts. For small outdoor events or medium indoor events, this box will give you the low end your PA may be lacking. It goes perfect with my 12 inch pair of full range PA speakers.
Box has one binding post/banana plugs and two 1/4 jacks on the back. Very lightweight, one person can carry easily.
FYI: higher frequency bass (100Hz - 300Hz) can make this sub "fart" a little bit. Solution: stuff a couple handfulls of poly-fill in the box to dampen the air.
Also check all the screws and hardware- two of the screws holding the sub in my box didn't have their nut-fasteners screwed all the way down on the inside. I took one of the handles out and fixed those two fasteners. You don't want the sub breaking free, the wood is only 3/8 or 1/2 thick.
Overall I am completely satisfied.
I have 4 of these covering 16 lanes in a bowling alley. crossed at 100hz. What a boom for the buck. The front grills are a little flimsy if you are going to go mobile with them you will need to install corners.
Great starter DJ sub, back up. Just can't beat the sound for the price!
We actually have three of these, two at Church, and one in my basement for our home band practice set up. Beware that they need a fair amount of power (300+ watts per speaker) to run well. Based on price point I would also suggest not pushing them. They are not the most high end, but do very well, and unless your audience is filled with discerning audiophiles, you will be surprised how well they sound. Several have noted that the internal baffles have come loose and rattle around. One of our three did this, and I simply pulled the back panel off and glued it back in place. I don't know how long they will last, but even if the speakers give out, the boxes are good enough quality to stick in a replacement speaker. For the money these are a very good buy.
these speakers have a nice sound to them.thanks!
Very good speaker for the price. Handles power well.
Aside from changing the pole cups and installing rubber feet, These subs are great for small clubs, medium clubs and even outside gigs. Lightweight and easy to carry, small and compact, I use these along with 2 Yamaha sm112 pushing 600 watts each side. I played a outdoor gig and it rained so much, these puppies were drenched, but after moving under cover, they were unaffected. I just ordered 2 more for use with my bass rig. I have been recommending these to ALL my fellow musicians... and they come out to see the band and are blown away! Don't expect to fill a large concert hall, but for the working/gigging musician, you can't beat these!
I didn't have high expectations for these speakers, given their dirt-cheap price. They are ok for moderate volume use with pre-recorded music. As another buyer mentioned, they are too wimpy for live PA work, but I will probably upgrade the woofers to handle more power when the stock drivers crap out. One thing to watch out for: the diameter of the pole cups is very loose, so if you use these subs to support topboxes on poles, they will NOT stand straight and will wobble dangerously from side to side (I suggest replacing the pole cups with something more rugged).
I'm a mobile DJ and I ran PR-12's for tops and these subs for bottoms using a Crown XLS 1000 and set the filter to low pass. I tried them out at a party of about 150 people in a medium-size ballroom, and I was very pleased with the result. Another good thing is these speakers are very light. I can carry one in each hand. If you're looking at subs that are affordable and easy on your back, these are a good choice. One thing I didn't like is the $20/speaker charge MCM tacks on the shipping after you place your order. This should be done at time of checkout.
I recently purchased 2 of these speakers for my PA system. Upon hooking them up they sounded great with a cd playing through them. As soon as i started to run the bass guitar and kick drum through them though they started to crackle and fart out. I tried everything from eq's to gates and compressors to combat the problem to no luck. My recommendation is only buy these if you plan to run a DJ system. They are not good for live band application.
This sub sounds great, has real good low end , tight pounding bass.
would recommend this speaker.
From DJ OldSkool,Mr.Groove.These sub-woofers are Boom-Boom room good.4 the price they are excellent. i will order the Pro-Pyle power amp. 2 use just 4 these sub-woofers. With 1500 watts per side at 4 ohms, i can wake them up & see them breathe. With the high output line, i can have a Bi-Amp. system. My equipment is all from McM. With the sales & deals from them, you can put together a soundsystem that you can feel.iOldSkool, Mr. Groove will be complete after 2 more orders. I will have one of the best DJ systems around.
I bought two of this sub-woofer product based on cost and physical dimensions (they are installed in an entertainment center) to compliment my Jensen PowerStation JP-1500 loudspeakers. Overall, I'm fairly pleased with the performance that the MCM Custom Audio 15" sub-woofer. I have a new pro-quality amplifier to power the subs; they are getting about 400 watts (in 8-ohm stereo mode) and they give me sub-bass that is not bad. I feel this is a decent-quality product, though a complaint I have is that I wish the sensitivity (efficiency) of the low-frequency driver was higher than 91 dBs. Needless to say, now my audio system appears even more imposing! The physical build quality is pretty good. The sub-woofer comes with four black-plastic feet (and screws), which I didn't bother attaching, but there are no pilot-screw-holes on the bottom. I wish screw-holes would've been provided; if pilot holes are there, I couldn't see or feel them. This product gets the job done for my home theater application, so than
