This miniature RC helicopter is great for any age. With its four blade design it is easy to fly, and the metal chassis makes it more durable.
Purchased two, one worked and the other one did not work. It would not lift off the ground. Would not purchase this product again.
When I was young I had helicopters on a wire with the rotor geared to a hand crank. They were fun to fly and could be controlled with great precision. The instructions for this one says "The helicopter set double propellers airplane of the helicopter series is coaxial and reversing structure effectively offers stable flight and easy operation." To try to use this one I need a lot of space because it is very unstable. I also need a large flat slick pad to take off from. If I try to take off from a flat rubber pad or a rug, it will fall over. If I use a slick surface it will slide around before it becomes airborne. I tried putting shims on the legs to get a vertical takeoff and it helped a little but the flight is always erratic so I don't have enough room for a through evaluation. It is frustrating not fun. The controls are throttle, turn body clockwise or counter clockwise, nose up, and nose down. There is a trim for body rotation but the setting for no rotation changes a lot. There is a lot of side to side movement (Flying in a completely still air.) and no side to side control so precision flying is impossible. To get the helicopter to respond at all after tuning it on, it seems to be necessary to give it full throttle then when it responds back off quickly to avoid a wreck. When charging, the instructions say "The red light on the controller will turn yellow while charging, is completed, the light will be red. Never leave the helicopter charging when it is unattended." The reality is that there is a red/green LED that pulses red as though it is driven by a biased triangle wave and a continuous green that reduces in intensity as the charging proceeds. How do you know when the charge is complete? The red LED pulses even when the charging connector is disconnected. I take the warning to indicate that there is no charge termination so you should discontinue charging as soon as the charging is completed.
I used 6 AA rechargeable NiHM batteries in the controller and they work fine. After you charge it and have the channel right and all tuned on, you must move the throttle lever forward and then back to activate the heli and connect it to the remote via infrared.
Start off by pushing the throttle forward until it starts to rotate on the ground some but not fly, then use the trim knob to get it to stop rotating, now you can start to fly. but only start a light takeoff while trying to control it in rotation and forward/backward flight. At first, do not just full throttle it and try to take off flying fast or you will crash into something for sure!
I have not hit anything hard, but it seems somewhat durable so far and has a spare tail rotor, two spare blade sections and a spare link that connects the gyro bar thing to the top blade.
Fun toy that so far seems to work well at a great price.
