      good choice for those who don't often need to measure inductance

      I bought this unit in the middle of a Large Advent restoration. I wanted to confirm the values of the crossover inductances, and those of the replacement inductors.

      I was surprised at its apparent accuracy, especially after reading a (basically favorable) review in which the reviewer made the not-unreasonable complaint that the test frequency was too low. (The unit measures the inductor's impedance, then mathematically removes its resistance. The higher the frequency, the less effect errors in the resistance reading have.)

      I measured two precision Alpha-Core air-core inductors I'd bought for the Advent. The test leads measured 5 uH. After subtracting the test leads' inductance...

      The 0.47mH inductor measured 0.475mH.

      The 1.5mH inductor measured 1.527mH.

      These are within the spec'd accuracy on the 2mH range of 2%, +/- 8 digits. So (assuming Alpha-Core has much-better meters), that's not bad.

      We all have ohmeters, so I wish this unit had ultra-low-R capabilities. This would, of course, require premium test leads. Still...

      I was concerned about the accuracy for small inductances, since it apparently measures the total impedance at 1kHz and just removes the DC resistance from this. So I measured a test coil both directly at 6kHz and with a bridge and got the same as with the meter (444 muH) to within 2% or so, with DC resistance 6.8 Ohm. But with coil resistance a factor 5 greater than the inductive impedance at 1kHz (2.8 Ohm) the meter gave more than 10% error, and at 10X the error was up to 25%, I don't know why they didn't just go to a higher frequency in the lowest inductance range.

      This is a great LCR meter. For the features and ease of use, it is well worth the money. I would have liked to have seen one more capacitance range in the pF, but other than that it is just great.
