    Not worth a dime!

    Overall: 1 out of 5

I just bought and received one of these. I was really excited to have it because I am in need of a nice, small portable scope. I thought this was going to be great, especially after reading the previous reviews. Well, the unit has so much internal noise, that it is impossible to display a clean waveform. This scope is useless! After 5 minutes with it, I called MCM for an RA and it is boxed up and going back.

    Nice scope but some bugs

    Overall: 4 out of 5

I purchased 2 of these scopes from MCM in late October 2012 and they seem pretty nice for the money. The wide screen is nice, lots of automatic measurements can be displayed on the screen, and the probes aren't bad. I have noticed some bugs, the cursor knob seems erratic, cursor speed does not correlate to knob rotation speed, and even when knob is rotated at a constant rate the cursor speed across the screen varies widely. Also when using time base settings faster than 500nS/div, the waveform displayed seems to be the last 2 or more waveforms superimposed, the number of waveforms superimposed seems to depend on the time base setting. Not a problem for a stable waveform (you wouldn't notice it) but for a waveform varying in frequency or amplitude the screen shows a blur of overlapped waveforms. This happens with averaging off, and real time mode on, also with equi-time mode on. I looked on MCM's website for firmware upgrades (the Tenma manual shows how to do a firmware upgrade if you can find the files). I could not find any upgrades on MCM's site. I sent MCM a message explaining the bugs and asking about firmware upgrades, but no response after 2 weeks. I do see a firmware upgrade available on Farnell's web site (Version 1.05 is available) but I have not tried this upgrade yet. Has anyone else seen these bugs and have they solved them? MCM needs to improve their product support.

    Overall: 5 out of 5

I have never had a DSO o'scope or one with an LCD; I have always used old style o'scopes since I was in the U.S. Navy 40-years ago. On this one, the screen is easy to read and gives me much more information than my old CRT 'scope. It is very easy to use in the "auto," but I am still trying to learn all the other functionality. It is going to take me a little time to learn, but the manual is extremely helpful. Another plus, this 'scope comes with two very nice standard probes that are easy to calibrate.
