The Raspberry Pi is great, but the red Bud case is a joke. It is hard to get apart without breaking the connecting pins and it is BIG. It also is not specifically designed for the Raspberry Pi - it is very hard to insert the SD card if the case is closed up. The only way to use it is to leave the top off, and it is still hard to insert the SD card. I definitely DO NOT recommend this case. One of the clear cases might be better, but the clear case from Amazon is the best (similar to the ones at MCM, but has access to I/O pins and has light pipes to extend the LEDs to the top of the case). The supplied power supply is marginal; only 4.7 volts at tp1 and tp2.

You should buy it. The RPi arrived with configured SD card, power supply, plastic case, and an intro book. After adding a USB kybd and mouse, it booted but was erratic. The power supply from MCM is stamped 1000ma, but it was not enough to run the Pi (700ma), kybd (100ma), and mouse(30ma). When the supply winks out, the Power LED lights but the ACT LED flickers and the FDX, LNK and 100 LEDS stay dark. When sufficient power is available (unplug the kybd & mouse) and a network connection is present, the FD, LNK, and 100 LED get active within 2-3 seconds of applying power. MCM should provide a heftier supply. I guess you need a powered USB hub. I had one case where I unplugged power and reconnected, and it sat like it was dead (power light on, all others off). Voltages looked good (5V and 3.3V). Looked up Troubleshooting in the book and by that time, applied power again and it booted OK. So if you have a drop-out, give it 5 minutes and try again. Why? Because it worked. The book is a help in getting started, but most of it is likely in the on-line community. I prefer reading from a book so the cost was worth it to me. The red case is hard to open, and came with detailed prying instructions, so I guess a lot of people broke them. It will do for protection from falling objects and static discharge if you just leave it closed. When you first run it, you get a config screen. Tell it to enable SSH, then you can connect from another computer using PuTTY. This is a text terminal, but it's fine for playing with the Linux command line. Surprising to me, the C compiler was easy to get working. There is no IDE installed but nano is a usable text editor. Use nano to write the source code, save it and exit, then just type "gcc source.c -o source", then "./source" to run your code. I ran a C loop of 1 Billion additions in 23 seconds ( 43 million additions per second). The same code in Python resulted in 0.2 million additions per second - 200 times slower than compiled C.
