She's always been there for me

      Overall: 4 out of 5

I bought this very same model about 30 years ago after using them professionally in various companies. It always worked then, and it always works now. I've been through four or five cars, three houses, almost a dozen jobs, two wives, but still using this same Weller WTCPT! I've used various 700 or 800 degree tips, and both seem to work well. And even though I am not very good at tinning the tips, they seem to stand up to a lot of abuse while other tips often seem to corrode within weeks. Might be made of kryptonite or something.

Sure, you have to change the tips every few years or so, but it's always worked, the cord seems nearly indestructible and certainly burn-resistant. Best $75 dollars I've ever spent on tools, and so I'd say it's worth the $150 now. As long as you keep the sponge wet, that seems to last forever also!

Yea, there is a lot of new models out there with digital controls and fancy bells and such, but it comes down to simply melting a bit of solder and this does the job. Best of all, it warms up in about 60 seconds, just wait for the little magnet click sound from the heater.

The only thing negative I can say is that it isn't very high wattage - so it struggles a bit to heat big globs of solder on larger heat sinks. If you do a lot of that then you may want a second high-power iron to use.
