    An Excellent Inexpensive Crossover Unit

    Overall: 5 out of 5

I was looking for an inexpensive active crossover network that would produce high quality sound with my Carver and Magnepan audio system. Spoke with the people at MCM who suggested to go with the Behringer for about the same price but I didn't want all the LED lights that is displayed with the Behringer. The ART CX311 only uses one LED light which is non-obtrusive in a darkened room setting, especially for home theater. I wasn't sure what to expect with the ART but I can say that my Magnepans have never sounded so good. Going active biamp with the ART using CX311 my 3 series Magnepans was definitely the way to go. There is much more detail, much better spatial definition, more life-like sound using the ART.

It was very easy to set up the ART to my speaker's specifications. Even though this is a pro-audio unit, purchasing the required XLR and phono jack connectors at MCM all at once, made installation very easy. The ART is an extremely quiet unit and does not bring attention to itself. The only downside to this unit is that it does not come with feet so you are not really able to stack this on top of another component without fear of scratching. If you plan to stack this unit on top of some other stereo component, you will need to purchase some rubber feet. Other than that, the ART CX311 is easy to install, adjust and feels well built. But the main reason for me is how it can make my speakers sound much better. It is like I have a brand new set of speakers that sound 50%-100% better than before. A great alternative to some of those expensive active crossovers more geared for an audiophile. This ART CX311 is more than adequate for any audiophile looking to actively biamp their speakers.
