Safely removes SMDs using low heat. Fast and easy to use. Heat can be applied with a soldering iron, warm air pre-heater, or heat gun. The SMD is then easily removed with tweezers or a pick-up tool.
I really like this stuff... I've been using it occasionally for a few years, and it does exactly what it says it does. Just solder a glob of it across the pins of your chip, and the solder stays molten for a long time, giving you plenty of time to pull the chip. Personally, I prefer to use hot air for removing SMD components, but sometimes I'm worried about damaging the board, component, or other components around it with the hot air, so I go to the ChipQuik. The stuff isn't cheap, though my experience has been that you don't need a lot of it to do a chip, and that you can reuse it a few times before it becomes too diluted with real solder to be useful (solidifies too quickly). To reuse, I just touch it with the hot iron (without flux) and glob it up, and then I spread that on the next chip (with flux). You definitely need to remove any excess ChipQuik from the PCB pads (and parts, if you plan to reuse them) with desoldering braid before soldering again, but it cleans up easily.Though I don't use it a lot, it's money well spent to have it on hand for the times that I need it.
I've used ChipQuick for the last few years. Able to replace TSPO 66 memory IC with just a soldering iron! Just make sure to have some desolder braid to clean up the lands afterwards. I have not yet lifted a trace or land using this low temp alloy to remove SMD.
