The photo angle hides the slots in the metal housing around the plastic that holds the contacts. The slots are cut for the purpose of forming spring contacts in the housing, but doing this weakens the housing, so it will readily deform when someone trips on the cable. Once that metal housing deforms, the connector will be allowed to wiggle in the male connector housing, and allow stress on the female contacts. Once the female contacts deform, you have an intermittent female connector. I have identified the problem with this type of construction before, and would not have bought this if I had been able to identify the slots in the photo.
The main purpose of this front part of the connector is to hold this front part of the connector is to hold the female connector in proper alignment with the male connector. A continuous, properly sized and shaped piece of metal without slots serves this purpose the best. Spring contacts here are essentially useless and especially so when they comprise the mechanical integrity.
