  1st. It takes only 3 AA batteries (the ones that I ws sent only take 3 AA batteries) 2nd. It has only one function. on and off. 3rd. It does have very bright lighting and can be placed on umbrella stand or hung from a hook.

  I purchased one like this from Hong Kong years ago - super brite! Better price now. If you know what you are doing with electronics you can convert this to operate off a 3.7 volt type 14500 lithium battery [ 1 ] and jumpering the negative to the ending empty 3rd cells positive. This wont last as long being 900 mah rating but works well - BRITE. You can even add a DIY 20 mode device to make it even better. Strobes, flashers - blinkers - dimmer etc. I use it in my tent with the li battery for lightness while hiking. Now the switch is kind of cheep but the brightness is simply fantastic!. My first one from from Hong Kong was 12 bucks.! Cant beat the deal here.
