A chrome metal LED holder with rubber base to hold the legs. Accepts 5mm dia LEDs. Mounting hole: 8mm.
I'm using this holder w/ a dual color LED w/3 legs. I modified the rubber plug by making the 2 holes a slot for 3 legs to pass thru. I used short pieces of 1/16" heat shrink on the legs to insulate them, since they weren't being isolated by individual holes in rubber plug. For the loose rubber plug, I gave the end of the holder a very slight crimp so the plug fit snug.
My client wanted a polished looking LED status indicator. This part fills the bill. I used heat shrink tubing around the shank in order to prevent the LED from slipping out. I recommend this approach rather than glue in the event that the LED needs to be replaced.
The components that make up this product are all well built and serve their purpose as intended. The main body of the LED holder is solidly built and the fabric insulator and rubber insert are as well. The one problem I had is that when you assemble everything with the LED, as shown in the pictures on the web site, and insert everything into the back of the LED holder body, there's nothing to prefent all the components from falling out again. It's a very loose fit. If the rubber insert were a little bit larger in diameter, it might hold everything in place better.I called tech support to ask if I was doing something wrong and was told that I was not. The person I spoke with suggested that for the price, I might have to do some "retrofitting" to make it work, which is what I did. I used a small amount of epoxy glue around the rubber insert to hold everything in place. If you don't mind the extra step in having to use glue, this is a nice looking and economical solution for panel mounting an LED.
