Yup, NOT a shielded cable! Aggghhh!

    Overall: 1.5 out of 5

I needed a number of short RCA stereo patch cables. But, tipped off by a prior review, I ordered just one of these to inspect. I carefully removed about 1/2" of insulation in the middle of the cable, and, sure enough, the finely stranded wire that would normally spiral around the "hot' insulated inner conductor just parallels it "straight" down the cable.

This renders this cable, and by implication, it's longer siblings even more so, a poor choice in any low signal situation, or in line level applications in high noise environments: Car stereos, near fluorescent, neon, or LED lights, near dimmers, computers, AC cords, and so on. In other words, this cable is a poor choice in about 90% of the applications one would expect to use it in. About the only "safe" usage I can imagine would be to connect low power speakers to an amp with RCA "outs" for the speakers. Or, I suppose one could modify the cable to add shielding -- hardly a cost effective proposal...

I have purchased hundreds of inexpensive "patch cords" from MCM over the years, and never had any problem with them. But, I am now a "lost customer" for such, and will go with another vendor, unless MCM:

    1) Checks and if need be corrects the construction of all cables intended for line level use.

    2) Adds "shielded cable" to the description of all cables intended for line level use (assuming 1 is completed.).

    3) Stands behind "2".

FWIW, I'll add "2a": Specify conductor material(s). I did not check this cable, and it may well be "ok" in this regard, but substitution of CCAL for Cu is becoming a common problem.

Now... I received several other items I like a lot, so, it's time for a couple good reviews on those! :-)

    Not for use on turntables.

Not a shielded cable. The outer conductor is not braided around the center conductor, it runs parallel to it. Do not use for phono cables, it will cause hum. Probably ok for line level applications.

Your typical inexpensive RCA cable. Not bad for the price.
