  This is really one of those must-have items for any and all electronics shops. Here a tip for you: to save valuable space in our parts room, all semiconductors that do cross to an NTE number is stored in bins under that NTE number. This way we can store - potentially - a dozen or more part numbers in the same bin. And if we don't have the exact part we need, we have other parts with similar specs right there and easy to find. Just make sure to check the individual components' specs before making a substitution if it is in a critical circuit. Simply because multiple part numbers cross to the same NTE number doesn't necessarily mean that they are directly interchangeable amongst each other (because the NTE specs are usually equal or greater than the original part number) but it sure simplifies your search in cases where you need a suitable part in a hurry. Also, be sure to save your older NTE/ECG books. Sometimes discontinued parts get dropped from the cross reference guide.
