Ultra compact audio amplifier circuit is housed in a fully potted plastic enclosure and is great for a variety of hobby, service and prototype applications. Because it operates on a wide DC voltage range, it may easily be powered by batteries, automotive power, or an AC adpator.

    4ohms vs. 8 ohms

    Perhaps before dissing the amplifier you'd note that it is 12 watts peak at 4 ohms. That means 6 watts or less driving one 8 ohm speaker. You need to run two 8 ohms speakers in series for the amplifier to see an 4 ohm output.

    I got this amp to make a electronic game caller. I used a 6 volt battery to keep the weight down and it was plenty powerful enough to drive the 12w "Johnny Stewart" horn speaker that I was using. I hooked it up to 2 of the 6 volt batteries in series to see how loud it was and it was "killer" loud. For my application I couldn't ask for anything more.

    More like 2-3 watts for music

    I bought 2 of these to make a small stereo amp thinking that 24 watts would be plenty for a small set of computer speakers. I made a housing for these to power 2 small computer speakers matched with a powered sub. These cannot reproduce music at 12 watts thats for sure. They distort terribly if any bass is present even at 250 Hz. Perhaps these are better suited for alarm signals where distortion isnt as audible.
