      expectations exceeded

      Overall: 5 out of 5

I'm rebuilding a pair of 30 year old Cerwin-Vega D5s. They were still working, and the famous CV bass was there, but lacking tightness and definition. Not any more. They sound like a vintage pair of 12" Infinitys now. These 12" speakers from MCM. I got nervous looking at the stamped steel basket on the MCMs compared to the cast aluminum of the CVs I was removing...but when the shouting is all over, the sound is all that matters. A fantastic deal.

      Great 2 Way Replacement Speakers

      Overall: 5 out of 5

I used this to replace a blown woofer in my old Radio Shack brand PA Speakers. The first thing I noticed is how light this speaker was and my heart sank. Now I realize that the Radio Shack speakers are nothing to write home about, but after modeling the 2.21 cu. ft. enclosure in WinISD software I found that this speaker was the best drop in replacement that MCM had to offer and it was a great price. My PA speakers had port tubes and with this speakers specifications it really does much much better in a sealed enclosure. The speakers were boomy at first and then I sealed up the ports. The speaker now has a cleaner and tighter low end punch that really impressed me. For what you are paying it is a great choice for a PA upgrade, but make sure to seal up any ports. The 1W/1M SPL response curve shows a reponse of 93db at 50 hz and 98 at 70hz for my box. I put the speakers through its paces by playing a style of music known as "Dubstep" which has lots of sound in the 40hz-100hz range. It's like I have a brand new set of speakers. I'm so impressed that I'll probably build a new slightly larger enclosure to replace my beat up Radio Shack enclosure.
