Superior Replacement For a Full Range Speaker or as a Surround Sound Speaker

      Overall: 5 out of 5
      Value:
      Quality:

I bought 3 of these speakers since the day I discovered these as a 5" full range driver. The reason for buying three is because I bought two and one somehow blew out so bought another to replace the damaged one. Outside of that, these are best 5" drivers on the market. I put these in an old speaker enclosure that housed a standard 5" driver at only about 5 to 10 watts maximum. With these drivers rated at 50 watts RMS and 100 watts peak. These make great surround sound speakers for a home theatre system or extremely useful as a monitor with a 20 to 50 watt amp with a keyboard connected to it. These even worked for outside usage as long as the surroundings were not too noisy. I would definitely recommend these drivers for replacements of worn out 5" drivers or as an upgrade for very low wattage 5" drivers. A standard enclosure that houses a 5" driver at 2 to 5 watts can be easily upgraded to a full surround sound speaker system without getting rid of that vintage enclosure that housed the original 5" driver. An example of this would be the Minimus 3 speakers that Radio Shack manufactured in the 1980s. Simply replace the original driver with one of these and you have a superior surround sound speaker system at very little cost and the sound is absolutely amazing. For even better quality, look for 5" foam baffles to enclose the driver even further so that the sound does not leak out the back of this particular enclosure for even greater performance. Superior Driver indeed. Definitely keep this 5" monitor in production.

      SUITED MY NEEDS WELL

      Overall: 4.5 out of 5
      Value:
      Quality:

I used 8 of these in a large center channel array along with 8 fabric dome tweeters. With very little equalization these drivers delivered exceptionally clear dialogue with minimal EQ. Very pleased... but to be fair I am putting very little power into each one so I can't speak to their max output or bass extension abilities. I'm running each one in a small sealed enclosure mid passed at 120-6Khz.

Only downside is the terminal setup sticks out too far and the tabs will have to be bent inward on each driver to clear the mounting surface for pretty much any application, not sure what they were thinking with that one.

      Great monitor speakers

      Overall: 5 out of 5

I have three Galaxy Hot Spot monitors with two 4 1/2" speakers each. I got a Peavey monitor (one 5 1/2" speaker with a tweeter) and wanted to change it to a 16 ohm cabinet similar to the Hot Spots. These MCM 5" driver fit the bill. HUGE magnets and enough sensitivity. They sound great. This may become my favorite monitor. I'm thinking of trying these in a couple line array/compact column speakers.

      5" full range driver item # 55-1595

      Overall: 5 out of 5

      Quality:

this speaker sounds excellent, is not expensive and is paper instead of poly. which to my ears makes a big difference. this speaker works great as a mid in a three or four way system if you want to cross over at other than spec. freq. you might give them a shot if you're on a tight buget/or not.

      Great for midrange application

      Overall: 5 out of 5
      Value:
      Quality:

I used 2 of these speakers to replace midrange speakeres in my older JBL speaker boxes. The range of these speakers makes them perfect for this application because they can handle whatever frequencies in the midrange without limitations. I noticed a definite improvement in sound quality and increased db's. Previously bought some great bass speakers for same boxes from MCM so I should probably rename my JBL's to JBL/MCM, lol. The only complaint I have is that with all the speaker installs I had to drill new holes for the mounting but since boxes are vented, no big deal. Really satisfied with these purchases and MCM's price point can't be beat!

      Great for speaker arrays

      Top 25 Contributor

I designed a three way system that uses a 10 inch woofer 55-2951 in a seperate box and four of these speakers in a three row, two column configuration, with titanium dome super tweeters in the top row. They really do the job of extending the midbass and making the midrange pop by providing a nice midrange presence boost while managing to resist feedback quite well. Their power handing easily allows for using multiple drivers in series. Throw the right mix of woofers and tweeters in there and you've got a three way system that'll handle anything you can throw at it. I would give it 5/5 stars for quality but can't do that because one of the drivers I ordered sounded like the frequency response curve really dropped of in the 80-200Hz range. This was not a problem for me but something to consider depending on your application

      EXCELLENT Midrange Speakers

      Overall: 5 out of 5
      Value:
      Quality:

These make excellent midrange speakers. I have mounted enclosures inside my speaker boxes for them (due to the open back design of these speakers) and replaced the original midranges in my home boxes. What a difference in the sound, the vocals sound more lifelike and so does the guitar and other instruments. For the price of these it is well worth your money and time, you will definitely be happy with the results. P.S. I made my inner boxes out of 3/4" particle board then screwed & glued the seams.

worthy for the price, lots of power handling

      Overall: 3.5 out of 5
      Value:
      Quality:

not bad at low power. phasing occurs quickly as frequency rises [see PDF specs]. usable for guitar speakers. usable for midrange. good for a computer subwoofer [keep away from monitors]. usable for door car speakers [handles excessive bass fairly well]
