      Well made robust woofer

      Overall: 4.5 out of 5

I purchased two of these back in 1999 for a pair of 9 cubic foot ported DJ/PA speakers that I made. These woofers have served me well for many years. At times during large outdoor events, I ran these woofers with one Mackie 1400i amp bridged per woofer (850W RMS, HPF set to 38Hz.) Despite this abuse, the woofers have survived and continue to work well! Overall I am very satisfied with these woofers and they have proven to be very robust.

My only complaint is their relatively short X-Max, which is why I only gave 4 stars for "features / quality." I wanted deep bass, so I built large cabinets with a low tuning freq. I'm sure the X-Max would not be an issue in smaller cabinets tuned to a higher frequency. At the time I designed these cabinets I used formulas from a speaker building book, none of which helped me determine cone excursion at a given power and frequency. Now there is software available like Bass Box that can predict cone excursion. If I had a program like this at the time, I'm sure I would have selected a different cabinet volume and tuning freq. oh and learn :-) Overall nice woofers for a reasonable price.

      low end to end

this woofer is impressive, the low end hits vary good even with a 500 watt professional amplifier.... this woofer is made heavy duty, and has a massive die cast frame... it would work great in a 3 way speaker system with proper crossover... i have this running on a low pass crossover for mid/sub bass.. it does the job, enough bass to shake the walls... not super low as a sub, but vary good clean solid bass.... you have to give this woofer a burn-in time to loosen up... this speaker can operate between 80 to 450 watt rms amplifier... why spend more money for a brand name, when could get vary close as sound quality this woofer produces.....

      Awesome replaement

      Overall: 5 out of 5

I needed a 15" driver to fit in my JBL scoops. The depth was important, I only had 6 inches to work with. The JBL E140's were cost probitive on my budget and these have similar chracteristics. Rock solid cast frame, thick cone, 4' voice coil and huge magnet. A 400 watt RMS power rating is a plus. I pushed these hard many times over the past five years. I use a TOA P924 amp for each and it gets no where near clipping and it's realy loud. I'd recomend these for any low end application.

Built a 2x15 cabinet for a customer with these. He wanted to play drop-D on a 5 string, and I wanted to build him a cabinet that would reproduce that fundamental note. 26hz. These woofers were a natural choice. In a 8 cubic foot enclosure slot ported tuned to 30hz, these woofers produce THUNDEROUS bass! Low low low lows I've never heard before out of pro woofers. Loud, clean, no distortion, my Peavey Mark IV runs out of steam long before these run out of xmax. My garage with cinder block walls rattles, you can feel the bass in the poured concrete floor! 30hz comes easy, 25hz is present, not sure where these eventually roll off, (or if they ever do!), but my god, these are outstanding value for money. Buy them if you can afford them, skip Eminence, skip Peavey, skip JBL, these exceed them at well under half the price.

Used this woofer in a transmission line

      Overall: 5 out of 5

I designed a pair of transmission line loudspeakers using this woofer for West Kentucky Community & Technical College where I work as Engineer for their Television Department. They perform circles around the theatre's EV house system at frequencies below 40 Hz. They produce 22 Hz at a level that literally rattles the light fixtures in the theatre's ceiling. The TLs are of 10 cubic feet with a line length of 9 feet.

      Subwoofer 55-1880

      Overall: 5 out of 5

I have 4 -2 15 sub cabinets loaded with these, and I push them with 2- 2500 watt power amps, and they will hurt your chest if I want them to, and yet they will be clean and clear as a good quality home stereo. I use these for outdoor gigs exclusively, because we use BOSE L1 Model 1 systems to play indoor gigs and the quality of these subs sound nearly as good .

      What a sound!

      Overall: 5 out of 5

I am a bass player in a working band that did 54 shows in 2009. I bought this as a "cheap" replacement for my bottom cab and was shocked at how good it sounds. The basket is built like a TANK! It has a sweet and clear all-around sound and thumps when you need it.

      55-1880 15" woofer

      Overall: 5 out of 5

As a extreme sound reinforment user used to EV Kilomax drivers, These equal at 1/6th the price. Headeast, Jackyl, And many others have played though these while I did sound for them. Add Foghat, Whitesnake, Ozzy's Guitarist, Too many to name. The Eagles have even heard them and the sax player Greg's wifes younger sister usues thes for her band as the main drivers.

      Great bang for the buck

      Overall: 5 out of 5

I am in the karaoke/dj buisness on the weekends. I have tried many different brands of replacement drivers in the past, with better luck on some than others. What i can tell you is this thing pounds. It will work in a sub encloser, or as a fullrange driver. This thing will take all a mackie 2600 bridged will throw at it in a sub encloser! Its worth every penny!!!!

      15" Replacement Woofer

      Overall: 5 out of 5
      Top 10 Contributor

I decided to try this as a replacement in a pair of Peavey SP1G's, since they were $60.00 cheaper (each) than the replacements from Peavey. Plus MCM is local and I was able to skip the shipping cost. I am absolutely thrilled with the results. I had to do a very slight mod on the cabinet, to allow for the slightly larger frame diameter, but the holes lined up perfectly, and the drivers sound fantastic. These are used on a PeeWee and Jr High football field, and are subject to a great deal of punishment, yet they hold up great. I highly recommend.
