    Excellent driver

    Overall: 5 out of 5

Used 4 of these in a JBL 4350 (sort of) clone. Put a pair in a BIG box (48x33.5x22) with 4 ports (4" x 6" long). Wired in parallel for 4 Ohms .. powered by a Carver PM-900. Crossed at 250Hz (24dB BW slope) to a 10" mid. Excellent response. Tight, full bass. Punchy .. no overhang. Solid output down to 25Hz.

Very efficient and low distortion. These fill a 20'x25' room and are barely moving. Could not be happier.

Great MI Speaker for Multi-Way Applications

    Overall: 3.5 out of 5

Recently purchased this 15" speaker and two 10" versions for use in Mesa Boogie bass cabinets. I love the frequency response curve of the 15" version because it is devoid of the annoying midrange "honk" present in the major US brand that is so widely used in OEM applications. That characteristic, of course, will make this speaker wholly inadequate for use as a "full range" driver. But in two way, three way, or subwoofer use, this speaker fits the bill for me. I haven't done frequency analysis on it yet, but I'd be quite surprised if there is much useful useful output above 1500-1800Hz -- but again, this is perfect for multiway systems. This speaker is rated at 97dB/watt output, which is relatively low compared to the 102dB/watt typical of major brand drivers, and that 5dB deficit is VERY evident by comparison. In short, it will require roughly twice as much power to drive this speaker to levels equal that of the name brand versions. Nevertheless, my 450 watt bass amp drives it fine in small venue settings.

The speaker appears to be ruggedly built, is attractive, and fits perfectly as a replacement for the original EV speakers. We'll see how they hold up over time. In closing, my only complaint with this speaker is the low efficiency, but the build quality and PRICE make this one a bargain by any measure. Recommended.

Fat, solid bass, smooth lower midrange

    Overall: 5 out of 5

I picked up a pair of Kustom floor monitor/pa spekers with all components blown. I figured I'd refill them and maybe up the sound quality. I was going to get the less expensive woofers but decided to pull the trigger on these for the price of a couple of lunches. Definitely worth it!

I matched them up to pyle titanium compression horns and also picked up MCM's two way high power crossover (at 2khz). At first I was disappointed in the bass (and remembered that I forgot to get L-pads so I ordered those too). Then I remembered that woofers often need to be broken in.

So now the speakers are finished. woofers, tweeters, crossover and L-pads. And the woofers are burned in.

When I started listening to these at fairly high volume in my work area several things happened:
    1. lower midrange had POWER without peakyness. This REALLY came out in vocals and horns. It was reminiscent of the ESS high end hi-fi speakers I used to sell in the 1970's with those amazing Heil Air motion tweeters that handled the lower midrange.
    2. Vocals had POWER. I put on a Frank Sinatra song (I Won't Dance) and it was like he was in the room. And a great deal of that was, again, in the power in the low midrange that so often is missing in speakers.
    3. I was projected in time back to 1978, when a friend who was an acoustic engineer demo'd his custom designed altecs, each with two altec 15's and a large altec horn. To this day I remember that sound. And my speakers have it!
    4. I can use these speakers as hi-fi stereo speakers in my home (in fact, I believe they will become the new mains in the man-cave when I'm not gigging).
    5. I'm a bass player. After plugging my bass into these I realized I could use these speakers as bass cabs. The low B challenged them, but I think that's the cabinet, not the speaker. And the bass was tight and flat.
    6. The sound of that Sinatra song motivated my wife, who was reading a book, to get up and dance with me.

    My Ears!!!

    Overall: 4.5 out of 5

I put two of these in a cabinet designed to Fender Dual Showman specs. The only complaints are my ears hurt and these would be perfect if they went to 4.5Khz or above. They have great bass response and can handle a lot of power with great efficiency. Good for guitar, but better for bass. I'm happy I didn't waste the money for a pair of USED JBLs.

    Legion monitor replacements

    Overall: 4.5 out of 5

I own a pair of Legion brand stage monitors that failed after a continuous load of 150-200 watts. I replaced them with these 15" woofers and was wowed not only for their capability to handle the SLP-900 powering them. (@8 ohms, of course) But the fact that they sound as good as my JBL MR-905 15" 2-way monitors! Clear, concise sound. I now know where to go, if my JBLs ever go out.

    Great speakers!

    Overall: 5 out of 5

I have nothing but rave reviews for these speakers--I replaced a pair of Peavey Black Widows with them, and they deliver! Great low frequency response, great product!

    "Tricked-Out" Kustom KPC15's

    Overall: 4 out of 5

I have a pair of Kustom KPC15 speakers that I have used for several live gigs and DJing. While not the best sounding cabs in the world they are okay for vocals and instruments (other than bass guitar). I decided to remove the grills and the speaker components to see what was going on inside the cabs. As I suspected the tweeter horns had piezo drivers BUT they were threaded into the horn with 1 3/8" by 18 t.p.i. threads. This made replacing the driver easy with a true compression driver. The woofers, while they seemed to have sufficient magnets, have an extremely limited excursion- they barely even move! This led me on a search for new woofers with better power handling and beefier magnets and a good X-max spec. I found these woofers on the MCM website and they had the specs that I was looking for and the price was very reasonable. I trust MCM so I decided to give these speakers a try. I also canned the pathetic crossovers that were in the Kustoms and ordered Dayton 2-ways crossed over at 2k (also from this site). Before installing everything back into the cabs I removed the small amount of batting from inside and replaced it with convoluted urethane foam- on all interior surfaces of the cabs, 4" thick. This should help to make the speakers function as if they are in a much larger cabinet and kill any cabinet resonances. I wired the compression horn through a switch so that i can use the cabs as subs and "turn-off" current to the horns. Everything is back together and I am anxiously awaiting to listen to them tomorrow. I will post an update with my thoughts about the sound quality at a latter date. MCM got all of these components to me very quickly and I am very satisfied with their service and parts! I am confident that these speakers will now perform 150% better and will have a much better defined sound- perfect for my band. Thanks, MCM!

This Speaker ROCKS!! You won't find a better speaker for the money anywhere.

    Overall: 5 out of 5

I picked up 6 ea. New JBL TR225 speaker cabinets on ebay which were empty. I obtained 6 ea. new JBL TR 225 Crossovers on the internet and they fit perfectly in the cabinet's cutout. This crossover also has the tweeter protection lamps to help protect your drivers from blowing under extreme conditions. I installed 2 ea. of these woofers along with a Selenium D220Ti-OMF-8 1" Titanium Horn Driver 8 Ohm and added some 61/2 inch fiberglass padding to the top, bottom and back of the cabinets. THESE CABINES ROCK!! I installed a 15 inch round speaker grill - the ones that secure to a round L bracket you install under the woofer. This eliminates those ugly clamps used to hold the grills on. These home brew cabinets look as good as the factory units but sound much better! I still can't believe I built these cabinets for a fraction of the cost of buying them new.

Replacment speakers for a 1966 Standel Studio 100 Bass Amp

    Overall: 5 out of 5

Put two of these in a 1966 Standel Studio 100 bass amp. Sounds great with a Bass guitar. I bought this new and it hasn't sounded this good in years. Deep low end, solid, no distortion. If you have a Bass cab that needs new speakers these are short money, great speakers! Peace
