Used to take speaker output signal from any amplifier and insert into a balanced input on a mixer or separate amplifier. 1/4" speaker level input is connected directly to amplifier output, 1/4" pass through output can then be connected to speaker. Balanced XLR output is then provided to connect to separate mixer.

  We have two in use at a camp. One interfaces a very long 70 v speaker run (through a transformer then into the direct box) into an amplifier to be repeated. The other is used to interface between the audio output of a walkie talkie into an amplifier. They work well for these applications.

  First the 20dB attenuator position is not 20dB attenuation. It is about 5 dB attenuation and moves the lower -3dB cutoff frequency up to 1.5kHz due to the divider appearing as 26k ohms source to the transformer primary that is much less than the stated 50 k ohms at low frequency. If you want this box to be useful for something, change the 47K and 56K resistors to 4.3k and 470 respectively to achieve 20 db. Then use this box only when coupling to low impedance outputs such as speaker, headphone, and keyboard outputs and not high impedance guitar outputs. On the 0dB attenuator position, the lower -3dB cutoff is 42 Hz at 600 ohms, 280 Hz at 6.8k ohms and 1.5 kHz at 26 k ohms. The Pyle spec. is useless, as it was copied from an active direct box spec. listing max input at one value for 9V. battery power and another for 48V. Phantom power. This box is not powered! I received no reply from Pyle when I emailed about this discrepancy.
