  I have owned at least six of these... there are several issues to be communicated. * these units can not handle high power with only 6 db/octave crossover around 2 khz. make sure you are using 12 db/octave crossover if you want to go down that far, otherwise, stick to a 4 khz or higher crossover. It would be a shame to do this as the units do a fabulous job down to 2 khz. Nevertheless, to be safe, you might be better off crossing over at 2500 or 3 khz. * it appears that their design does a little evolving, so that some replacement diaphragms I purchased don't quite fit the older horns. If you want to get replacement diaphragms, I suggest you get the diaphragms at the same time that you get the tweeters because in the future, there may be no guarantees of fit. * some of the older versions of these seemed to have little resonance frequencies where the diaphragms would be unstable and make funny noises that one might not notice if not listening intently. This would only happen if the music contained the resonant frequencies of the diaphragms. I haven't noticed this problem in the two newer ones I purchased, so it should be ok to trust them. Perhaps this is the reason for the slight evolution of the diaphragms I mentioned earlier. * warning... these units are easy to disassemble, and reassemble. Unfortunately, if not reassembled perfectly, they will not behave properly, but more importantly, if you get the idea of twisting on the phase plug to tighten up the screw, you will destroy the diaphragm. Once the diaphragm is distorted by twisting, it will be irreparable even though the voice coil is still in tact. To properly reassemble, hold the phase plug in position while screwing the screw from the back side. * these units seem to have the spl that they claim. This is often not the case for loudspeakers, but in this case, I can honestly say that I believe the full 106 is there. *Keep in mind... a 600 maximum watt power rating is not a good descriptor. I have seem some rms power ratings for these units that I can not remember off hand. Those ratings are, of course, a lot lower. Tweeters don't have very long voice coils, so a 2 inch voice coil is really not all that big. I have never burned the voice coil of one of these, but on the other hand, I don't think I have ever dumped more than about 80 to 100 watts rms through them, so there is my measurement. rms power capacity is at least 100 watts, which is actually quite good. But remember.. if you don't use a 12 db crossover at 2 to 3 khz or higher, you could destroy the diaphragm with under 100 watts even though the voice coil did not burn. *the magnets are so wide that mounting is tricky. They may need to be mounted from the back side of the board. You can mount them from the front side, but you will have to cut your hole very carefully, and you may need to seal around them. It would be better to mount them in an enclosure that is separated from a volume of air acted on by a low frequency driver if you want to mount them on the front of the board. *I have been pleased with the top end response of these drivers. they don't seem to roll off much in the audible range, and they are quite quick, even though thare are some kinds of drivers that are faster. *Drivers like this cost around $250 in the earlier days of hifi, but I suppose chinese manufacture has changed this. *One major advantage of this kind of driver is that it doesn't have too much resonance in the highly sensitive 3 khz (womans voice) range where the ear is highly sensitive. It's because of the length of the horn. If you go much longer, you will most likely start to screech. Avoid tweeter horns that are in the 2 to 5 inch length range. The horns on these are about 1.25 inches in length. The quarter wave (its lowest) resonance frequency for that is around 2600 hz. The opening size is 3 inches, which is less than five, (the wavelength of 2600 hz) so wave mechanics says that we can expect there to be reflections and some unpleasant screaching close to the 2600 hz range, which is a problem. For this reason, it may be good to actually put the crossover at about 2500 hz so as to start killing this potential resonance. If it is down by 3 dbs at 2500 hz, then it shouldn't screech too badly, and as the frequencies rise, not only will the driver reflect less and resonate less, but the ear is less sensitive. Even so, the driver has a peak near 5 khz (half wave resonance) which may demand a little adjustment on the equalizer. *I have these drivers coupled with some large midrange/high bass drivers (6.5 inch or so) that are only 97 db spl in one location. One might think that this would cause a problem with the spl mismatch, but the easy solution to this is to cross the lower drivers out at around 3 khz, and connect this tweeter (with a properly sized capacitor in place designed to cause -6db at 2 khz for example) across the crossover coil designed to choke the highs out of the lower driver. This will implement close to 8 decibels of drop on the tweeter horn, which will make it match a mid-range driver of approx. 97 db efficiency. I have been very pleased with these drivers. I highly prefer metallic diaphragms over plastic ones. They seem to be faster and more pleasant. this may be a matter of personal taste.
