Grey 1kg PLA 3D Printer Spool

Stellar Labs PLA is an excellent filament for 3D printing because the PLA glass transition temperature - where it becomes amorphous and moldable - is relatively low at 60-65°C. The actual melting temperature is higher at 190~220°C. Again, because it’s made out of by-products, PLA is one of the cheapest filaments readily available for home 3D printing. Sugar cane and other starch products are, of course, renewable resources, so PLA is biodegradable and a renewable product.

Poly(lactic acid) or polylactide (PLA) is a thermoplastic aliphatic polyester derived from renewable resources, such as corn starch (in the United States), tapioca roots, chips or starch (mostly in Asia), or sugarcane (in the rest of the world).

Almost all printers on the market are configured to run with PLA. Our colors come in white, blue, red, natural, black silver or grey. It is important to remember that different colours of PLA may have slightly different physical properties, and all temperatures are therefore estimations.

    Used this in my RepRap Ormerod 2 with good results. It needs higher extrusion temperature to fuse, and parts tend to warp at low bed temperatures. I am getting good results at 225C with bed set to 65C first layer then 58C. Weak fusing at temps below 215C produce layers that split under fairly moderate stress. Feels a bit stiffer than the filament that came with the printer and produces shinier surface. The spool is 200mm in diameter with a 53mm center hole and I had to design and print a spool holder and a spool adapter to be able to use it in my printer. Haven't tried other colors yet, but will get some. Wouldn't recommend it for very fine-detailed prints but good overall.
