Natural ABS 1kg 3D Printer Spool

Stellar Labs ABS is an excellent filament for 3D printing because ABS has more strength, flexibility, and higher temperature resistance. The actual melting temperature is higher at 220~260°C. ABS is also more recyclable. ABS is also more easily sanded and machined.

ABS stands for Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene
ABS is made by heating Hydrocarbons in what is known as the "Cracking Process". Once the Cracking Process has been completed, the Compounds are formed into Chains that are known as Polymers. In our scenario; Then the Polymer is Extruded into Long Strings, with a Specific Diameter, and Melt Flow Index; during this process Colorants and other Additives are added.

Almost all printers on the market are configured to run with ABS. Our colours come in white, blue, red, natural, black silver or grey. It is important to remember that different colors of ABS may have slightly different physical properties, and all temperatures are therefore estimations.

    Nice price but brittle

    Overall: 3 out of 5
    Value:
    Quality:

    The good news:
Material prints well at elevated temperatures - I run at 235C to get good bonding at 0.3mm layer height. Parts come out well with nice finish. Filament seems to give a uniform print on straight edges indicating a fairly uniform diameter.

    The bad news:
Filament is much more brittle than any other filament I have used. Every color of this filament I have used breaks when sitting idle in the machine. I can run prints for 3 hours or more with no issue, but once I stop, if the filament sits, it will break in several places within an hour or so - wherever the filament is held straight in the tubing/extruder.

Not sure if the problem is nicks/stress risers from manufacturing or rapid cooling after extrusion of the filament at the factory or what.

So far the finished parts seem to be as sturdy as the other filaments I have used, although I haven't done any scientific testing, just subjective observation at this point.

This would be my go-to filament for cheap, quick builds if it didn't break in the machine all the time.

    FYI:
I have been printing for a couple years now and have found most mfg's recommendations for printing temperatures to be way too low for good printing. Higher temps allow for faster printing, better bonding, and much fewer hotend jams as long as the heatsink part of the hotend has good cooling.

At lower temps parts tend to fail at the layer boundries, but at temps around 225-240C if a part breaks it breaks across the layers not at the layer boundaries, indicating good layer bonding.
