Absolute Perfect Solution for Stand Alone Tuner

    Overall: 5 out of 5

I love this product for a stand alone solution tuner. I am president of an A/V installation company and these units work great for commercial or home entities that need a stand alone tuner. It has plenty of outputs, beautiful picture, and is easy to operate. The only slight negative we have noticed is that they get extremely warm during operation, bringing up the question of longevity with such a warm operating temperature in the box. Just be sure and place them in a well vented area and they will probably do fine. The ones we put in about a year ago are working great and the customer loves them. We love the fact of so many flavors of outputs and simple ease of use. We love these units. I highly recommend them.

Just bought two more of these for a customers rack. They currently have four dish receivers but wanted to access local channels on their network of monitors. Added two of these with the 30-2445 antenna, and all works perfectly.

Went thru 6 because they didn't like being unplugged and plugged back in!

    Overall: 1 out of 5

We needed 4 converters at our TV stations for an SAP Audio monitoring set-up. Ordered 4. They all powered up on the bench and programmed the needed channels for monitoring. Then I unplugged them to mount them on a perforated rack shelf in our Tech area. Only 2 of the 4 would power back up! I contacted MCM and the promptly sent out 2 more. Over the next 3 days, the dead converters started to wake up on their own. Upon receiving the 2 replacements, I had to remove the existing units from the shelf to install the new ones. When I plugged in the 2 new ones along with the 2 that WERE working, only 1 box powered up. The others just had a flickering red LED and no display on the front as the 2 original dead ones did.(LED is green once powered up). I just had to see what would happen if I unplugged the 1 working box at that point. And as I predicted, THAT one wouldn't power back up either! Over the weekend, strangely, one by on, the 4 dead converters eventually powered themselves up. I have no idea what causes these to go into some strange 'dead mode' and then wake up randomly. I could see having issues with one, but all 6? What a terrible waste of time and money. I can't rely on these so they all will be going back. If you already have these, save your packaging. I will be looking for a better DTV converter like a Channel Master.

    Adjusting 30-2890 on install.

    Overall: 5 out of 5

Got this unit for an older Runco TV and also to allow connection to a stereo amplifier. After having the TV respond with a 1080 reading on the screen polling the HDMI button on the remote, the TV was still without a picture. Then one needs to adjust the Clock Button on the remote to adjust the height-width ratio to match the TV. For this unit, that button labeling is confusing.

Had an unusual situation where we needed to simultaneously feed component video to an older projector for local TV broadcasts, and composite video to a small monitor in the rack. This tuner does both flawlessly. And if my customer ever upgrades to HDMI, we're still set. The picture quality is perfect.

Sensitivity is great, picks up all expected channels very well. The on screen display and channel guide are OK, certainly good enough, but not as nice as you'd see on a new TV or cable box.

I did take away a star because of the LED display on the front of the tuner. Rather than show a channel number, it shows a memory location. A bit inconvenient in my case, but I would imaging normally not a big dea.

All in all, I really like this and would highly recommend.

    Terrible composite video out.

    Overall: 1 out of 5

Video out is horrible. Choma burst is centered in the sync pulse driving most monitors crazy. Needs an expensive frame synch to correct. I bought 6 for off-air monitoring, all have the same problem. Maybe rf out ch3/4 works, but not why I wanted them.

    Great Item

    Overall: 5 out of 5

This Tuner works great. A couple of tips:

    1. If the digital monitor being used has a problem with a steady setup menu, just also run the mode with coax to a television tuned to Channel 3 which was steady. Then try the different resolutions with the HDMI cable also connected to the digital monitor. With my monitor the initial resolution of 1080i caused the image to roll. When I changed to 1080p, it worked perfectly on the HDMI monitor.

    2. After scanning for the stations, several with the same virtual channel were skipped when using the channel up or down button. I went back into the menu and used the manual search setup on the channel by going to the RF channel and then the channel with the duplicate virtual number was not skipped.

    3. My HDMI monitor does not have speakers so I just ran the audio cables to a stereo. Result is super video and audio.

This box is great I was amazed to have HDTV for such a small cost as I had a digital monitor available.
