Best Buy In A Bench Meter

      Overall: 5 out of 5
      Value:
      Quality:

We purchased this meter about a year ago. We found it to be highly accurate. The ranges and functions are very good. We manufacture and modify high end audio equipment, and find this meter to be excellent for our R&D efforts!

      Somewhat dissapointing

      Overall: 3.5 out of 5

The meter works but readings are slow and seem to include several "successive approximations" before they settle down. AC volts and frequency seem to be inconsistent at lower frequencies - anything less than 100hz. And for a meter that is meant to be used on the bench, or in a rack of equipment, that rear mounted power switch is a most major pain! I have replaced the 72-1020 with a Fluke 287. I expect that the battery life on the Fluke won't be as good as that on the Tenma 72-1020.

      Nice

It's a good meter at any price. I got it on sale from MCM and it was a bargain. It measures about everything and it's nice to have an ac powered meter on the bench. The display is large and easy to read. It seems you can measure most things with just the COM and V jacks, which is not what the manual says.

My gripe is the power switch is on the back, not the front. It's not good for my setup, so I plugged it into a remote controlled power strip.

      Excellent meter

I am an electronic hobbyist, and I have had the meter for a little over a year. I do not do PC uploads, but I do find the meter excellent for giving me readings on my projects. Excellent quality, great functionality, and easy to use. Yes, the power button is on the rear of the machine, but I do not have difficulty reaching over the top and turning it on. The only problem my jaring the power plug (also on the back of the meter) and then trying to figure out why the meter is not powering up. I am very satisfied with the meter.

      Good for the most part.

Accurate but readings are unstable on low ohms and low volts ranges.

Great meter, no so great software

      Overall: 4 out of 5
      Value:
      Quality:

This is a great meter! Extremely accurate and reliable. The display is clear and bright, readable from a distance if needed. I would prefer that the power switch be placed on the front panel and not on the back). I tend to need print outs of meter readings and settings. The software provided does attempt to show what the meter is reading but has no concept of scale. The readings get placed on graphs with no decimal point scaling. The graphs are just very large integer numbers that have to be scaled by hand / mind (not very useful if you intend to send them to a remote engineering team. If you plan to use the meter for it's great accuracy and display it's a must buy, but for PC software use, find another MCM meter/software package.
