A handy soldering gun for a wide variety of jobs including soldering, cutting, and shaping and features a unique Therma-Boost trigger that gives you added bursts of power when you need it.
I was looking for a cheap but effective soldering iron/pencil that I could take around with me. My trusty soldering station was just too awkward to throw in the tool bag or to even move across the workshop for just a quick solder job. This looked like it could fill the job, and so far it does. I went for this because of the extra tips - and they turned out to be more useful than I thought, as my first two jobs was to cut styrofoam and then trim the wax off a big candle. The flat blade worked well for that - but it's not so hot that it cuts like a knife through butter. Even with the boost it was a little slow going.* If I had a choice, I wouldn't need so many flat blade tips, and would have preferred a small point to do electronic soldering (which I mostly do), but the flat screwdriver tip is functional. I think the pix fools you into thinking there is a point tip included but I think it's just the screwdriver tip seen on end, and there is only ONE of them.* The thermo-boost does work somewhat but doesn't appear to be so useful - it only can be used for intermittent power but it is limited to keep the whole thing from self-destructing. I just hold it on whenever I am impatient to let it warm up. For soldering larger stuff (heatsinks, structural joints, etc.) it's just not so powerful.* Then there's the stand - it's really cheap looking and it will bend if you breathe on it too hard, but yes it does actually keep the tip from hitting the surface you rest it on, and I didn't spend a lot of money on this so I am not complaining.* Bottom line: I would get it for the long-blade cutting of soft materials and an occasional solder job for larger wires etc. but not smaller PCB components. If you are looking for an electronic soldering iron, I found pencil irons easier to handle, more compact, and they can be had with more precise tips. This is MORE useful as a craft tool not an electronic tool.
Heats quickly. However, when plugged in it is on at 30W, pulling trigger makes it go to 150W. I do not like it being on when just plugged in. More like a soldering pencil. Does work well.
