      Pyramid WH88 Woofer

      Overall: 4.5 out of 5

So far, I've used three of these as bass guitar speakers. They work very well in small vented enclosures (I'd recommend at least 1 cubic foot for each speaker to handle 4-string bass). However, they are not as sensitive as rated and they definitely can't handle 250 W! More realistic figures are around 90 dB @ 1 W, with 100 W power handling. 90 dB is pretty respectable for a fairly rugged 8" with extended low-frequency output. Unlike a lot of "pro" or MI speakers, these Pyramids don't have a huge midrange peak (which usually accounts for the high sensitivity of this type of speaker). They don't sound as typically bright, but a 6 dB passive crossover to a midrange or tweeter works great to punch up the high end. I damaged the voice coil (still works, but has a slight buzz) on the first one I tried in a too-small .35 cu. ft. car audio box, driving it with a 150 W Crate Power Block amp in 8 Ohm bridged mode. Could have been a bad speaker...I wouldn't expect tight quality control at this price. My plan is to build two 4 Ohm cabinets of about 2.5 cu. ft. loaded with two WH88s in each one. The Power Block in stereo mode has 75 W/ch @ 4 Ohm, so speakers should run cool.

      Great replacement speakers

      Overall: 4.5 out of 5

These woofers were rated at 250-watts, not 100-watts as advertised. Installation was simple, although the mounting holes did not line up exactly with the originals. They sound great, so I'm pleased with the results.
